Back in Black!    That’s right, Monday night’s divisional battle against the hated New York Giants will once again be a “Blackout”.   Last season, the Eagles opened up prime-time play against the Giants with a “Blackout”.   That game resulted in the Birds first shutout in 18 years.   The team out-gained the Giants by a rate of almost 2:1 in total yards.   They drove Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib to the turf, a combined 8 times.   Point blank, they completely and utterly dominated the game.   Now, I’m not saying this game will be a repeat of last season.  But, I truly believe that the black uniforms do something special to this team.  The Eagles are riding high, after coming off of a dominating win over the New Orleans Saints.

In that game, DeMarco Murray finally found his footing, tallying a total of 100+ yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.  The passing game really started to find its’ rythym, going for well over 300 yards.  The team should ride into this game, full of confidence and swagger.  On the other hand, so should the Giants.  They are the lone team atop the NFC East at 3-2, following a controversial come from behind win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.  Needless to say, this should be a good one.

Blackout coming to Philadelphia on Monday Night

The Philadelphia Eagles made an official announcement last night that the team will wear their all black jerseys on Monday Night against the division rival New York Giants.

Of course, this is the second year in a row that the Eagles will wear the all black uniforms against the Giants in prime-time football. Last year the Eagles dominated the Giants 27-0 on a Sunday night in week 6 to improve to 5-1 going into the bye week.

This time around the Eagles will be looking to improve to 3-3 and grab a share of first place in the NFC East.

Black And Blue: Birds Blank G-Men 27-0

October 14th, 2014 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on Black And Blue: Birds Blank G-Men 27-0 | Filed in Eagles, General, NFL, Sports

Sunday Night was a game that few Eagle fans will soon forget, as the Eagles recorded their first shutout in 18 years. Entering the game as a 3 point favorite, the Birds quickly proved that it’s always safe to bet on black. Debuting an all-black attire for the first time, the Eagles jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back.

As the kick-off approached, fans were apprehensive. However, the Eagles eased some of the nerves when Shady McCoy ran for 36 yards on 4 carries in the first drive. Following a drive that stalled at the New York 13, Cody Parkey put the Eagles up 3-0 with a 31-yard field goal. The defense quickly went to work, forcing a three and out, in just under 2 1/2 minutes.

In three of their next four drives, Zach Ertz caught a 15 yard TD pass, James Casey (Yes, James Casey!) hauled in a 26 yard TD pass, and Cody Parkey added yet another boomer of a FG to his resume with a 45 yarder, putting the Birds up 20-0. While the offense was taking care of business, the defense was busy shutting down Eli Manning and the offense, holding them to just 45 yards of offense in the first-half.

To begin the second half, New York picked up right where it left off, with a three and out. However, Nick Foles just as quickly gave the Giants back the ball. That’s when things went wrong for Big Blue, terribly wrong. While running a routine route on 4th and goal, star wideout Victor Cruz double-clutched, tearing his patella tendon, all but ending his season.

The Birds would take over at their own 3 yard line. Nick Foles led a 97-yard march down the field, resulting in a 9-yard Darren Sproles touchdown. That would be it for the scoring, as the offense milked the clock, following an injury to Darren Sproles, and the defense continued forcing punt after punt.

Eagles-Giants Preview

October 13th, 2014 by Kyle Lutz | Comments Off on Eagles-Giants Preview | Filed in Eagles, Football

Who- New York Giants (3-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)
When- 10/12, 8:30 PM EST, NBC
Where- Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
Forecast- High of 56, partially cloudy, 4 MPH, SE winds
Odds- Eagles by 3; over/under at 50.5

(AP Photo)

The Giants head into Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday night riding a very impressive three-game win streak, in which they’ve outscored the opposition, by over a two-to-one margin, 105-51. New York in that time span’s averaged a very-impressive 35 points/game, while the previous two games this year they only scored 14 points in each game, both losses. While they’ve certainly been packing it on, and playing solid football, as of late, offensively speaking, they haven’t exactly played solid or playoff-caliber teams during their three-game win streak. They first beat Houston 30-17, while Houston has some issues on the offensive side of the ball and is still in rebuild mode.

Eagles (4-1) vs. Giants (3-2) Preview and Staff Predictions

October 12th, 2014 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Eagles (4-1) vs. Giants (3-2) Preview and Staff Predictions | Filed in Eagles, General, NFL

After what looked like it was going to be a three touchdown victory turned into a six point victory against the Rams last week, the Eagles now sit at 4-1 (Yes Jason Pierre Paul, that is 5 games not 4). Things have been far from pretty over the first five weeks of the season, but somehow this team has found a way to have a chance to go into the bye at 5-1. Standing in their way is a surging New York Giants team who have won three straight games coming into tonight.

This one has all of the ingredients of being a classic Eagles-Giants match-up with big division implications on the line as a win puts the Eagles two full games ahead of the Giants at this point in the season. While a loss would allow the Giants to jump the Eagles in the division because of the head to head tiebreaker.

There has already been plenty of trash talk both from the Giants and Eagles, including a video narrated by Bradley Cooper that surfaced on the internet earlier this week. This just seems like a game that is going to be similar to the Redskins game in week three, and for an Eagles team that has been called a “soft 4-1” this is a game that can silence a lot of those critics with a win tonight. The defense will be short handed once again with out Mychal Kendricks, and while Demeco Ryans seems like he is going to play, he is dealing with a lot of pain. There is no question that this defense will be tested against a Giants offense who can score points, and they now add first round pick Odell Beckham Jr. to that mix. Cary Williams who has been a shell of himself from last season, needs this to be the game where he comes out and plays football.

LeSean McCoy has been bottled up, even though he had a decent game last week in the second half. He just doesn’t look like Shady McCoy from every aspect. This is a game that brings the best out in players, so will it bring the best out in Shady? Along with Shady, the entire offense has been kept in check so far this season, and like I said just now this is a game that brings the best out in players (look at the Redskins game), will this finally be THAT game for the offense?

So, second-year man Nick Foles is for real. At least vs. blitz-heavy, division rivals.

The 1-3 Eagles pulled out a surprise victory on Sunday afternoon vs.  the winless, division rival New York Giants at East Rutherford.

Michael Vick was sidelined, and subsequently replaced by backup quarterback Nick Foles, with a hamstring injury in the beginning of the 2nd quarter today. In his place, Foles played fantastic, going 16/25 (64% completion percentage), with 197 passing yards, 2 touchdown passes, and 0 interceptions. His quarterback rating of 114.9 was a new career high for Foles.

Vick was far less accurate in the pocket than Foles was. He threw for 105 yards on just 6-14 passing; a completion percentage of only 42.9, albeit it was a small sample size considering Vick’s injury early on. Vick’s QB rating for the game was 69, and he also ran for 79 yards (including a big 34 yarder, which wiped out a 3rd and 20 drive) and threw for 7.5 yards per pass-attempt.
