Yesterday was a special day in the AFL and for the Soul at the Wells Fargo Center. The combined event featured the Soul vs Iowa Barnstormers. It was also Military Appreciation day that held a job fair for veterans by the Judge VIP Careers and the First Annual Army vs Navy Arena football game which played after the Soul game.
The Soul (8-5) extended their win streak to 3 in a row by beating the Barnstormers (6-8) with a score of 54-30. The Soul took an early lead in the game and held the lead throughout the game with QB Dan Raudabaugh leading the offense with 12-of-15 passes for 142 yards and 4 touchdowns. The rushing was led by Derrick Ross, who became the AFL’s all-time leading rusher last week, had 54 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. The receiving core had an impressive outing as well, Ryan McDaniel had 5 receptions for 47 yards and 2 touchdowns, McDaniels also rushed for 1 TD. Tiger Jones had 57 yards on 4 receptions and 2 touchdowns while Andrae Thurman had three catches for 38 yards. The Defense for the Soul was led by Larry Brackins, DB David Richardson and DL Bryan Robinson who helped hold the Barnstormers to just 30 points of offense. The Soul scored on every possesion in the game but one.
On the other side of the ball, the Iowa Barnstormers were led by QB J.J. Raterink who was 15-of-27 for 145 yards with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions and substitute QB Brian Reader who finished 13 of 20 for 124 yards with 2 touchdowns. The Barnstormers had the ball on offense much longer than the Soul but were not able to produce many points against the Soul’s stingy defense.
