If you are an Eagles fan, you may have noticed through the years that one fan stands out particularly the most. He can be seen in the stands with a war painted face and outfitted in head to toe in Philadelphia Eagles game day gear. This fan is so actively cheering team that the camera never shies away from getting his reaction throughout the game. Fans seem to gather in big crowds around him since he is as celebrated as much as the players themselves. So infamous is Mr. Shaun Young  that he was recently recognized by the Eagles organization as their number #1. Who exactly is Shaun Young? Here’s the inside scoop about the Eagles number #1 fan from yours truly.

Emily: When did you start watching football?

Shaun: I have always been passionate about sports since I was young. I was always actively involved in some kind of sport including football. I particularly love dissecting a team’s defense. It was only natural for me to begin following it.

Emily: Have you always been an Eagles fan?

Shaun: Growing up in Bucks county, I have always been a stronger supporter of any Philadelphia sports teams from the Eagles, to the Flyers, to the Sixers, and the Phillies.

Emily: Who’s your favorite Eagle?

Shaun: My favorite Eagle of all time is Brian Dawkins. I was fortunate to be invited to his #20 retirement ceremony for the weekend his #20 was being officially retired. I felt humbled when he came up to me and thanked me for my dedicated fandom. It was rewarding to be recognized by him.

Emily: When did you start getting into character as the war-painted Eagles fan?

Shaun: I started dressing up in 1995. 1995 was the year that I became a season ticket holder.

Emily: What gives you the biggest pride representing the Eagles fan nation?

Shaun: I pride myself on being a positive role model. I love getting fans excited and hyped up when I interact with them. I enjoy the high energy level that they get when they interact with me. I do enjoy the recognition & it gives me something to look forward to at every game.

Emily: Talking about being a positive role model, you are quite active in giving back to the community as well. What charity work are you currently involved with?

Shaun: I am highly active in a few Eagles supported nonprofits. I am involved with Danny Watkins’ foundation, All Hands Working (www.allhandsworking.org) The goal of All Hands Working is to reduce the number and severity of injuries sustained by firefighters in the line duty and to assist those who have been injured and can’t return to work. In fact, I will be bowling with Danny and a few Eagles this Friday to support this great cause. Proceeds from this event will go towards his organization. Details can be found at: http://bowlwiththebirds.eventbrite.com/. It’s a great way to get to meet some of your favorite players yet give back to charity.

I am also currently active with Barkann Family Healing Hearts Foundation. I have done a few guest appearances there as well as participating in a lot of their charity events they hold.

Emily: I heard you actively go to schools to guest speak as well?

Shaun: Yes, and it has been fulfilling. I talk to kids about the current issues that affect them from bullying to social dynamics. The message I try to get across to them is “be the best you can be”. Recently, it gave me great joy when a young man approached me and said that the message I gave him years ago still resonates with him& that he took it to heart. That makes me feel good when I can create such positivity in one’s life. I strive to do that everywhere I go.

Emily: Well, on behalf of the Eagles fan nation, I thank you for being the #1 most spirited fan and taking the time to let us know more about you. It makes us proud that you are not only passionate about the team and football, but also take pride in community service as well. That is an admirable trait.

Shaun: I am honored, and hope to continue this journey of fandom and being a positive role model since it’s an extension of who I am.
