We’ve had a few months to cool off since the 76ers orchestrated one of the most intriguing NBA Draft nights and general team overhauls in anyone’s memory. Long story short, Philly unloaded Jrue Holiday for a combination of Kentucky center Nerlens Noel and the New Orleans Pelicans’ top-5 protected 1st round pick in 2014, and then used its own pick on Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams.
So where does that leave the 76ers? Simply put, “re-build mode.” Sure, there are useful pieces. Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young remain; Nerlens Noel is a potential stud defender in the paint; and Michael Carter-Williams is one of the most promising rookies in the league. In fact, if you glance at the Betfair exchange – an online casino with an extensive sports book with various betting opportunities – MCW has top-10 odds to win rookie of the year. He’s an excellent floor leader with significant potential.
But the real focus is on Philly’s draft picks. If we assume the 76ers will be a lottery team in 2014 (they’ll probably get a very high pick), and that New Orleans finishes better than the bottom 5 (which seems likely), Philly could have 2 lottery picks in the most loaded draft in a decade. So, who should the 76ers target? Here are 5 players who would be great fits in Philly.
- Andrew Wiggins – Called by most the best prospect since Lebron James, Wiggins is a blockbuster talent. Regardless of position or fit, he’d be any team’s top target – and it just so happens he’d fill a specific need on the wing in Philly, and should be able to score instantly.
