If you don’t know who Kyle Hudson is, don’t feel bad. The Phillies made a trade on Wednesday with the Rays to acquire the outfielder in exchange for AAA outfielder Rich Thompson. Hudson, 25, is eight years younger than Thompson and both were playing at the same level. Thompson has spent the last five seasons playing for the Phillies AAA affiliate and has just one major league at bat. Now there are no aspirations of Hudson becoming the next superstar in the Phillies outfield, but he still has a higher ceiling than Thompson.
Rich is a guy whose key attribute is his speed, and he uses [his speed] extremely well, both offensively and defensively. We felt like profile-wise he fit in really well with us.
