Report: Sixers and Rockets have deal in place for Jeremy Lin

The Sixers and Rockets reportedly have a deal in place for Jeremy Lin

Over the course of the last two weeks, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Jeremy Lin and potential trade that would send him to Philadelphia. With the league waiting on the decision of LeBron James, mostly all transactions are on hold right now. The reason being is his decision will have a ripple effect throughout the league, causing other moves to take place accordingly.

One of those moves is all but likely Chris Bosh. Reports have surfaced over the last week that if LeBron James signs anywhere besides Miami, Chris Bosh will leave the Heat and sign a deal with the Houston Rockets. However, like we have reported on Talk Sports Philly the only way that signing can happen is if the Rockets clear cap space to make room for Bosh, which would likely include moving Jeremy Lin.

It now seems that the Rockets will be moving Jeremy Lin if Chris Bosh wants to sign with the Rockets. Liberty Ballers Jake Pavorsky, reported that the Sixers and Rockets have a deal in place that would send Jeremy Lin to Philadelphia. According to the report the Sixers would also take back a future first round pick in the deal, and possibly more. Lin, is due $14.89 million in 2014-15, yet holds a cap hit of just over $8.37 million. In 71 games with the Rockets last year, Lin averaged 12.5 points per game.

Of course like it has been said above, the trade coincides with what ends up happening with both LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Until LeBron James makes his decision it is highly unlikely that Bosh will either.

This is will turn out to be a fantastic move by Sixers General Manager, Sam Hinkie, if this trade does happen. Something Sixers fans should be thrilled about for sure.

Report: Sixers open to Jeremy Lin trade

July 6th, 2014 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Report: Sixers open to Jeremy Lin trade | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers

In recent weeks Jeremy Lin has been talked about in many trade scenarios, as the Houston Rockets are looking to shed cap space in efforts to acquire a max contract player. TSP recently reported a rumor that the Sixers and Rockets were talking about a Jeremy Lin trade.

It appears that rumor is true.

According to Marc Stein, the Sixers have emerged as the “leading contender” for Jeremy Lin. The trade would more than likely send no salary back to Houston, while sending future draft picks and Lin back to Philadelphia. Lin is due $15 million next season, even though only $8.4 million will go against the cap. The Rockets have already agreed to send Omer Asik to New Orleans for a future first round pick as part of their efforts of clearing cap space. That trade is expected to become official on July 10th.

Another team that has expressed interest in Lin is the Milwaukee Bucks if the Rockets would add a “sweetener or two”, according to Stein.

As we have reported before, Sam Hinkie and Daryl Morey, the Rockets GM. are close friends, as they worked together in Houston. However, that doesn’t guarantee a trade will get done as we seen last season with Omer Asik not being shipped to Philadelphia despite reports of Hinkie possibly absorbing Asik’s contract.

Rumor: Sixers, Rockets talking Jeremy Lin trade

July 3rd, 2014 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Rumor: Sixers, Rockets talking Jeremy Lin trade | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers

Could Jeremy Lin be a Sixer soon?

The Houston Rockets are expecting to make a run for either LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony, which would create a super-trio of James Harden, one of those two, and Dwight Howard.

One Problem. They need cap space to do that.

The Rockets currently are nowhere near having the amount of cap space required to give them a real chance at landing James or Anthony. They have already traded Omer Asik to create another $8+ million, and are now reportedly looking to move Jeremy Lin as well.

According to Jake Fischer of SB Nation, the Sixers may be a suitor for Lin.

The details of a possible trade are nowhere near known at this point, but what is known is Jeremy Lin is due $8.37 million this year. His contract is expiring, which works out perfect for the Sixers who seem like they are not looking to acquire expensive talent, especially at the point guard position.
