Musgrave leaves Eagles for Raiders

In what has been a routine for Chip Kelly since he joined the Eagles two years ago, the team will need to find another quarterbacks coach this offseason after Bill Musgrave left the Eagles on Monday to become the offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders.

Musgrave, 47, is leaving after just one year as the Eagles quarterbacks coach after replacing Bill Lazor who left last offseason to become the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator. He will now work under new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, which is a similar job for Musgrave as he served as Del Rio’s offensive coordinator when Del Rio coached the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The departure of Musgrave adds even more confusion and uncertainty for the Eagles quarterback situation, as there is no sign or guarantee of who will be the teams starting quarterback at the start of next season. If the Eagles decide to stick with Nick Foles, the next quarterback coach will be Foles’ fourth different quarterback coach in his four years in the NFL. Foles first worked with Doug Pederson as a rookie when Andy Reid was still here, then worked under Lazor in 2013, and Musgrave this past season.

There is no sign on whether Kelly will promote from within his current staff or go out and hire a new coach.
