The Greatest QB in NFL History

January 31st, 2010 by Christian | Filed under Eagles, Football, General.

Watch what happens when the most ACCURATE QB in history hits his receivers running at full speed. They can’t be stopped. Montana had better touch and accuracy than anyone, EVER. He could thread a needle whenever he wanted to, and put the ball in a receiver’s arms better than handing off to them. He was more accurate than William Tell. Brains, speed, quick release, touch and precisely accurate.

Bill Walsh gets a lot of the credit, but any coach can draw up plays –  this guy executed them almost flawlessly. That’s why no other team has run the west coast offense and won the Super Bowl. Montana made that offense. His accuracy, brains and athletic ability. Oh, and he’d drive a stake through your heart like Michael Jordan.

If McNabb had an ounce of Montana’s accuracy, the Eagles would have 3 Super Bowls by now! I really dislike McNabb, but I am starting to disike Reid TOO! Here’s why….the offense is set up for an accurate pocket passer, right? We’ll Reid never went out and got that type of Quarterback untill Kolb who is rotting on the bench. Second if you are going to go with McNabb why not go with his strength and let him run more through the years like he went crazy the very 1st playoff year? McNabb is okay, but in his defense he can’t be something he is not!Reid is a stubborn horses you know what!
If he went with him he needed to design a more effective and applicable (fitts McNabb) and consistent offense with a running game. This offense has been feast or famine with no inbetweens!
Trade McNabb for some draft choices cause they desperately need defensive help NOW. They have actually drafted nicely the last few years. Then let Vick and Kolb battle it out, whoever wins…..at least I don’t have to see Donovan’s STUPID grin anymore!

    • I think Montana is in the top 5. I was at a game where Buddy’s insane D sacked him 8 times! He got his butt off the Vet turf and threw two late TD’s to win, insane! After Peyton wins 1 or 2 more may lean towards him. John Elway could give any body a run for their money. Bradshaw has 4 rings, one more than Joe. Staubache was pretty damn good too. A pure pocket accurate as hell passer was Marino, though he never got the running game he deserved. I thought Marino and Aikman were the most accurate along with Joe, no doubt. And were stuck with running backs who have been great athletes BUT NOT QB’s in Randall and retard NcNabb! Sucks being an Eagles fan lately! Looks like LA will finally get a team, a billionaire out here bought 600 acres in the city of industry and has the go from the NFL to build this insane staduim on a hill like dodger stadium is perched. It is off the 110 freeway south of downtown. This place and plans are absolutely incredible. Now he has to buy the Bills or Jaquars who can’t fill seats. He was asked if they refuse to sell, he stated he is old and wants nothing more than to bring football back to Los Angeles and everything can be bought. Can’t take his billions to heaven or hell, very cool old cat!

I still don’t think its much of an argument. Manning is the best ever in my opinion and will further validate that as he continues playing.

    • Christian says:

Johnny G, like I asked you before, if he loses the Super Bowl, is he still the best ever? You have to perform your BEST when it matters MOST to be considered the BEST. Happy Feet Manning, for the most part of his career, has come up short in the bigger games. Only that one year, and he almost blew that AFC title game again to the Patriots. He almost lost last week to the JETS for crying out loud. If he lays an egg in the Super Bowl, you’ll hear more talk about what a big game choker he is. The regular season is one thing – the playoffs and Super Bowls are another.

IF Happy Feet Manning wins the Bowls, he’ll still only have half as many rings as Joe Cool.

      • Johnny G says:

If he loses the super bowl i will still consider him the best ever. There are alot of moving parts to winning in the playoffs and you have to look at each case objectively. What did Manning have around him, what was his defense like? Did he have a strong running game? No he had an awful defense and almost a no existant running game. He runs that entire offense as an offensive coordinator on the field. Peyton thoroughly embarrased the best defense in the NFL in the conference championship. How you couldve watched that game and said anything bad about manning is amazing. His team was trailing and the way he orchestrated that drive at the end of the first half was unbelievable. Everybody knew he was going to win that game after he scored to end the half.

It comes down to a fundamental difference. I put more stock into what a player has done for his entire career rather than put SO much stock into a one game performance in a super bowl. When you put too much stock into playoff heroics you wind up talking about guys like terry bradshaw as top 5 qbs and thats ridiculous. The same way Carlos Ruiz is a hero here now because of 15 games where he hit 300 in the playoffs. Anything can happen in just one game. Sustained excellence is what seperates the greats from the best.

        • Christian says:

What did Manning have around him? He is blessed with much more talent than Montana was. Edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison, Darryl Clark, Reggiwe Wayne, Joseph Addai. And Joseph Addai carried the team the year they won the Super Bowl. And I think they’re defense was ranked #1 that year. Montana won his first Super Bowl with Earl Cooper as his running back.

What Manning did in the AFC Champoinship is what Montana did EVERY YEAR in the playoffs. It’s why I consider him the best. If you liked that game by Manning, and you had seen Montana, there would be no question in your mind who the best is. Manning’s career playoff record is 7-8 I think. And he had the best team in most of those games, but came up short. He has a similar big game rep as McNabb. And if he dogs it again this year, the choker talk will come back.

For sustained excellence, you need look no further than Montana’s Niners. They won 4 Bowls in nine years, including back to back, and almost won three in a row. By the way, you don’t just win one game for the Super Bowl. In 1984 the Niners went 18-1 and are considered by many experts to be the best team ever. Manning’s Colts have won one.

Montana also played when defensive backs were allowed to manhandle receivers, and quarterbacks actually got hit, unlike today when the league has created a protective coccoon for QBs and receivers. If Montana played with these rules, he might not lose a gme.

If your arguement is who is the best statistical, regular season, quarterback ever, then you might have a case. I’d check Dan Marino’s stats though because he put up a lot of numbers in the regular season too. He was another dud in the playoffs.

But most people, including Manning, know what really counts. Think Manning would give up trade those four MVP awards for four Super Bowls?

You better hope he wins on Sunday, or your boy wears the choke collar again. He makes good TV commercials, though.

Yo “hockey fan”, Peyton pulled a Donovan or a Farve. Better stop building that statue for him right now.

  3. beefreez says:

Please leave the comments on a man’s game to men. Yes, Montana led an awesome team. Yet, Young followed and produced better numbers(and 1 title). Marino was the best qb of our era, but either Otto Graham (10 titles in a row, with a completion percentage 20 points higher than the competition) or Johnny U owns the title of best of all time. Don’t go to the ring debate, that would mean that Doug Williams, Mark Rypian and Trent Dilfer were better than Marino. You would be alone on that side of the argument.

    • Christian says:

      1. Steve Young is a Hall of Famer and he could only win one with basically the same team.
      2. Marino was a crybaby, and a hothead who yelled at his teammates on the field. Hence no titles.
      3. I still have my own teeth so I missed Graham and Johnny U.
      4. Regarding Williams, Rypien, & Dilfer. Once could be a fluke. Four times is no fluke, no coincidence. It’s the best mark of my lifetime. The best mark in modern football history.
      5. Up yours bizzotch!

      • georgie says:

joe montana top 3 maybe top 2 but greatest of all time…..definately debatable..as for montana being the most accurate passer in history is just not true. with a quick glance at the stats i see peyton is more accurate with a 64% completion rate compared to montana at 63%..it can be debated that manning is already viewed as the best of all time. add another 5 yrs and another ring or 2 and there can be no argument. montana was great as was marino, elway, and grahm and unitas, but the old timers played in a different era…and possibly wouldnt even get on the field in todays game. with all the stats, intangibles as well as rings, peyton manning is and will definately be considered the greatest of all time

        • Christian says:

Happy Feet Manning already the greatest of all time? Are you nuts!? And yeah, just throw in another ring or two, like they give them away. If he’s won one in his first ten years, then he’ll win a half of one in his next five years. Like I ask Johnny G above – if Happy Feet lays an egg in the Super Bowl, will he even be considered in the top 5?

      • Leo says:

The greatest of all time in any sport at any time is always debatable. Montana definitely falls into that category. Williams, Rypien, and Dilfer do not, period. Peyton will be a hall of famer and probably one of the debatable ones. Marino, may have been a crybaby, but he was also a great QB, personal opinion aside. Just my take.

      • What about Starr, Griesy or Y A Tittle? LOL!

      • It is very frustrating as an Eagles fan to see some absolute one hit wonders win Super Bowls while the Eagles were great under Buddy and great under Andy……….actually, it’s goddamn ridiculous those two eras did NOT produce at least 3-5 Super Bowls, let alone NONE! That’s Philadelphia for you! Boo Hoo!

  4. ChrisLeo33 says:

Awesome Christian, this video supports your argument perfectly, I’d like to see one on McNabb like this, LOL

    • Yeah one on McNabb with that stupid grin and ridiculous glasses after another NFC Championship choke at the press conference in his pimp suit…when he leaves Philly I hope he goes home to his momma and eats all her chunky soup in Chicago. LEAVE ALREADY, I am soooo tired of 11 years of a carrot dangled in front of me! I would trade 10 bad years for one Super Bowl than this misleading 3rd highest winning percentage crap in the last decade! It means nothing without a trophy! Lurie is on my list too, and don’t call me Francis!
