Reports: Eagles plan to sign Tim Tebow

The Eagles worked out Tim Tebow a month ago, however there were questions whether anything would come from that after Tebow left Philadelphia with out a contract.

However, that is not the case anymore.

According to multiple reports, the Philadelphia Eagles are planning to sign Tim Tebow to a one-year contract. The deal is likely to be finalized tomorrow.

News broke early this evening by Fox Sports Jay Glazer:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also had some interesting news on the signing and what happened with Matt Barkley leading up to the signing of Tebow:

“Tim Tebow has reached agreement on a new deal with the Eagles, two sources said Sunday. Tebow is scheduled to arrive in Philadelphia — and get a deal done — in time to be in attendance for the start of the Eagles off-season program Monday.

Philadelphia has finalized an agreement with the 27-year-old Tebow, the framework of which was put into place when he worked out for the team last month.

Before signing Tebow, the Eagles first wanted to try to trade backup quarterback Matt Barkley. But when the team could not get enough in return, it decided to bring in Tebow anyway so that he could be present for the team’s entire off-season program.

Tebow now will join a crowded Eagles’ quarterback roster that includes Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and Barkley, giving Philadelphia three former first-round picks at the quarterback position in addition to another decorated college player. And it also will reunite Tebow and Sanchez, who were teammates with the New York Jets.

Football’s most interesting team this off-season, the Eagles, just got even more interesting – if that were possible. Tebow now will attempt to jumpstart an NFL career that has been on hold since he played his last NFL game in 2012. Since then, Tebow continued to train for two full seasons with the noted throwing coach, Tom House, who also has worked with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Tebow, who has been working for ESPN and as an analyst for the SEC Network, last played in an NFL regular-season game when he was with the Jets after playing two seasons with the Denver Broncos.

Tebow went to training camp with the Patriots before being released in August 2013. He struggled to find consistency with the Patriots, completing 11 of 30 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions in three preseason games.

“I will remain in relentless pursuit of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback,” Tebow wrote on Twitter after he was released by New England. Now the pursuit continues – in Philadelphia.”

It has been a long time since we have seen Tim Tebow play in an NFL game, 2012 to be exact. His last stint in the NFL came in 2013 before he was cut by the Patriots before the season started.

Tebow, a former first round pick, went 8-6 as a starter in a three-year stint in the NFL. He struggled throwing the ball, which was a big knock on him coming to the NFL, completing just 47.9% of his passes. Tebow also has thrown 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and has totaled 2,422 yards through the air. On the ground Tebow has rushed for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Whether Tim Tebow makes the roster is yet to be seen as the Eagles now have five quarterbacks on their current roster: Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley, GJ Kinne, and Tim Tebow.

Eagles fans still wonder if their could be another name added to that list after next weeks NFL Draft begins, but now isn’t the time for that speculation, because right now it is Tebow Time.
