TSP Radio and Talk Radio Podcasts, 10th Anniversary

April 22nd, 2020 by Leo | No Comments | Filed in 94WIP, Events, General, Interviews, TSP Radio

Well, as most know who follow TalkSportsPhilly on the Internet and our various adventures in the Sports World of Philadelphia and Beyond, it is TSP’s 10th Anniversary year.  And what a year it has been, saying sarcastically :).  Over the years we have done different podcasts on a variety of subjects and guests.  It hasn’t been the mainstay for TSP like the Internet and Social Media but another outlet of content for sports in a different format.  A few co-hosts even moved on to larger broadcasts and continue in Sports today.

TSP would like to Thank all that supported, participated, contributed, and read and listened over the last 10 years and will be here for many years to come.

Below is a Radio Player with a lot of different episodes on it if you want to take a listen, just Sports Talk:

ENJOY!

Leo Interviews Vince “The Invincible” Papale on TSP Radio

July 10th, 2019 by Leo | No Comments | Filed in Eagles, General, Interviews, PhillyWood, TSP Radio

In TalkSportsPhilly’s history I had a chance to talk with and interview Vince Papale on TalkSportsPhilly radio.  Vince has a lot of great advice to bestow in his book and in the interview.  I was impressed on how humble and friendly Vince is, he has a genuine interest in others and their success.  The “Invincible” movie very much similar to TalkSportsPhilly’s bid to talk sports and entertainment in Philadelphia.

In this interview we talk about his book “Be Invincible”, the movie, the Eagles, and future projects for Vince.  So take a listen and enjoy what Vince has to say.

Phillies sign Bryce, That’s Nice

March 1st, 2019 by Leo | Comments Off on Phillies sign Bryce, That’s Nice | Filed in Baseball, General, MLB, Phillies

After months and months of talk here in the Philly area about signing Bryce Harper, finally the Phillies and Bryce signed a contract! The contract is for 13 years and $330 million dollars and Harper, 26, will be 39 when this contract runs out.  But the $25 million AAV of the deal means Harper could possibly be traded at some point in his career. After the announcement of the signing the Phillies sold over 100,000 tickets already for the upcoming season.

Harper has dominated the NL East throughout his career. He’s hit 96 home runs in his career vs. NL East opponents, with an OPS of .909.  In Harper’s 50 career games at Citizen’s Bank Park, he has a .930 OPS with 14 home runs.  With the most home runs being hit in Citizen’s Bank Park, that should mean the Phillies and the fans will have a lot to cheer about in the upcoming years. One thing that seems odd is a no opt-out in the contract, the Boras deal doesn’t have any opt-outs for the player or the Phillies.  Considering Boras typically adds that into the deals, you begin to wonder what actually happened behind closed doors while negotiating the contract.

Why did it take so long? Not really sure other than he was holding out for a better deal even though a lot of people felt deals of this magnitude as “stupid money”.  There are some concerns with Harper’s career so far, he has missed time with injuries, he’s amounted to fewer than 2.0 bWAR in three of his seven big-league seasons. Harper has had inconsistent defense and he struck out a career-high 169 times in 2018.

It should be interesting to see how Harper is received in Washington this year and what other moves the Phillies will make in their bid to win the NL East.  If you would like to check out Harper’s stats you can see them on the Baseball Reference site.  By signing the biggest contract ever you know he made some kind of history, Harper surpasses Giancarlo Stanton for total contract value.  Stanton signed a $325 million extension with the Miami Marlins but Harper will probably hold this title for quite some time.

SuperBowl LIII: New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Rams

January 21st, 2019 by Leo | Comments Off on SuperBowl LIII: New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Rams | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, Sports

Well, the teams that are in the SuperBowl this year has been set.  Here in Philly we were hoping for a back to back Superbowl wins after Nick Foles delivered the miracle in 2018 for the Philadelphia Eagles first ever SuperBowl win!  We celebrated all year long basking in the glow of our teams win and thought that the miracle might happen again as St. Nick stepped in for an injured Carson Wentz and got the Eagles into the playoffs even though everyone counted them out of that option.  The Eagles made it to the Divisional round but fell to the Saints in a heart-breaking loss.

This weekend we saw both the AFC and NFC championship games featuring the Rams vs Saints and the Chiefs vs Patriots.  Both games were exciting and even had some controversial calls by the Refs, including the incredibly missed pass interference call in the Rams vs Saints game.  Both games went into OT and that was a first for the NFL.  Both the Rams and the Patriots won in Overtime and are headed to Atlanta on Feb. 3rd at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Eagles vs Vikings NFC Championship Preview

January 20th, 2018 by Leo | Comments Off on Eagles vs Vikings NFC Championship Preview | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL

In the beginning of the season, no one saw the Eagles actually going to the NFC Championship game, yes we in Philly say we are going to the SuperBowl every year but this time it may actually be true.  Once again the Eagles are in the Underdog position which personally I like, even if it’s undeserved, and I also think the Eagles will win this game too.  I believe there are a lot of factors in the Eagles favor and the teams matchup very similar in strengths and weaknesses.

First off, Home field advantage is huge and the fans can be a big factor in the game, second I think the weather will favor the Eagles as well since the Vikings are a dome team but there is no denying that they can handle cold weather as Minnesota is no picnic in the winter time.  Both teams are sporting relatively inexperienced QB’s in this type of game and both teams have an outstanding D, which of course is why both of them are there.  It’s the D or lack there of D that will decide the game and many look for it to be a low scoring game and a close matchup.  I myself am predicting an Eagles win with a score of 24-20 and an Eagles trip to the SuperBowl.

For the first time in 13 years, the Eagles will host the NFC Championship on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.  Just how unlikely is it for these two to square off at 6:40 p.m. ET on Sunday for the NFC title?  The last time a conference championship matchup featured two quarterbacks who weren’t their team’s respective Week 1 starter was at least 1970. The last time two quarterbacks with fewer than three games of playoff experience faced each other in the conference championship game was 2006.

Since Carson Wentz went down in week 14 with an ACL injury everyone has counted the Eagles out.  Yet the Eagles and Nick Foles managed to win home field advantage, tied in the NFL with the best record, and won the Divisional playoff game against the Falcons to make it this far.  No, Nick is not Carson but he is a competitor and has the ability to lead this team to a win.  Make no mistake this will have to be a team effort.

Here is a preview video from NJ.com on the game:
