Philadelphia 76ers Draft

sixersdraft2016

So we all know that we have been waiting for years on this type of draft and a major change in 76ers organization.  I feel that the players we got and everything and also the players they kept is a very smart idea.  So the Sixers have been losing on purpose to make a future for their city, which I love the idea. The Sixers had to do this because it would have benefited the team later on,  which it did.  So we get a number 1 pick in Ben Simmons from LSU,  its a soild pick and he is a big man and that drives inside the paint, a go getter, and a good leader, the Sixers need someone like him to spark our city.

Timothe Luwawu is from France, he’s a high flyer which goes to the hoop and a team play maker which brings a lot to the table our Sixers.  I believe this is a steal for our team.  Furkan Korkmaz, is a shooting Guard from Turkey,  this guy is good at the defensive end and good at blocking.  I’m going to say put this man with Noel and see what happens.  He is a good shooter at any range, which we need at all times with our team because they had a hard time this past year with that.  If the Sixers could maintain good shooting and incorporate these new draft picks then the team may see winning ways again next year.  Lets see.

Jahlil Okafor was the right pick for the Sixers

June 28th, 2015 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Jahlil Okafor was the right pick for the Sixers | Filed in General, NBA, Sixers

The NBA Draft came and went on Thursday night, and one thing remained the same from the previous two drafts, the Philadelphia 76ers added another cornerstone to their rebuilding process. With the third pick in the NBA Draft the Sixers selected Duke center Jahlil Okafor.

Okafor was selected after Karl-Anthony Towns was selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves, and D’Angelo Russell was taken by the Los Angeles Lakers second overall. There were many who wanted the Sixers to end up with Russell, as he has the potential to be a star guard in the league. However, the Sixers did not land the Ohio State guard, and the team gladly took the 6′ 11″, 272 lb 19 year old center who has tremendous upside.

In what many believe is becoming a guards league in the “new NBA”, Okafor is a old-school big man who has a flurry of low post moves and dominates in the post. There are some who believe Okafor has the footwork and skill-set to be the best true big man to come into the league since Tim Duncan.

One of those believers just happens to be one of Tim Duncan’s teammates and mentors, David Robinson:

Draft Night Recap: Were the Sixers smart in their picks?

June 30th, 2014 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on Draft Night Recap: Were the Sixers smart in their picks? | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers

nbadraftThe suspense (or….lack thereof) is now officially over. The NBA Draft has come and gone without a trade up to No.1 for Andrew Wiggins, or unloading the expensive contract of veteran Thaddeus Young. However, it’s a mis-statement to say that the Sixers weren’t active in last night’s draft, executing 4 trades in Brooklyn.  With that said, let’s take a rundown of the picks and see how Sam Hinkie fared in his 2nd draft at the helm of this….interesting orginazation.

1st Pick (#3): Joel Embiid (C/Kansas)

I love this pick. Embiid is the most talented player in this draft. The question remains, “Can he get healthy?” If he can, pairing Embiid with Nerlens Noel can create a monstrous back court, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the Spurs’ “Twin Towers” of Tim Duncan and David Robinson. Many were skeptical of this pick, but to the skeptics…I have one thing to say. The Sixers had Embiid’s medical records on file for three days.  If they didn’t feel he would recover to almost 100%, I doubt they would’ve taken him. Whether you like the approach or not, Hinkie is demanding that you be patient with this team.

2nd Pick (#10): Ellfrid Peyton: (PG/UL-Laffyette)

To me, this pick seemed like a panic pick. It was no secret that the Sixers wanted Nik Stauskas out of Michigan. The Kings took him at #8 and the Sixers panicked. The took the relatively unknown PG out of Louisiana-Laffyette that rose with the quickness. It seemed for a short time like the Sixers were primed to trade reigning ROY Michael Carter-Williams. Or, so we thought….

Recap: Embiid Headlines Sixers Draft Picks on Busy Night

June 27th, 2014 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Recap: Embiid Headlines Sixers Draft Picks on Busy Night | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers
The Sixers selected Joel Embiid with the 3rd pick

The Sixers selected Joel Embiid with the 3rd pick

The Philadelphia 76ers finished last season with a record of 19-63, leaving many, if not all, of the fan base looking forward to draft night. For close to a year now, the most popular player linked to the Sixers, via fan opinion, was Kansas Small Forward Andrew Wiggins. However, Wiggins didn’t end up in Philadelphia nor did Jabari Parker who was another player linked to Philadelphia after his freshman season at Duke.

Instead Wiggins went to the Cleveland Cavaliers as the first selection in the draft, and was followed by Jabari Parker who went to the Milwaukee Bucks, respectively.

When the Sixers went on the clock at number three, the possibilities were endless with players they could take. Dante Exum, Joel Embiid, Julius Randle, and Noah Vonleh were all linked to the Sixers at that spot. They could have even traded down.

But when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver trotted his way to the podium for his third selection of the night he said: “With the third pick in the 2014 NBA Draft the Philadelphia 76ers select Joel Embiid” words that some Sixers fans were thrilled with and also angry with.

Report: Sixers Interested In First Pick

June 11th, 2014 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Report: Sixers Interested In First Pick | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers

Thad Young

According to an ESPN Mock Draft that was released recently, the Philadelphia 76ers are interested in trading up to acquire the Cleveland Cavaliers first overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft on June 26th.

The Sixers already own the 3rd and 10th selections, along with five second round picks, in this years draft.

The report says that the Sixers are not interested in giving up both of their top 10 picks to acquire the top selection, but a package including #3 and Forward Thaddeus Young is a possibility.

Earlier this month, Fox Sports Ohio reported that there was a team in the top three who had expressed interest in acquiring the top selection. It now turns out that the mystery team appears to be the Sixers.

NBA Mock Draft 1.0

May 31st, 2014 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on NBA Mock Draft 1.0 | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers
Joel Embiid makes sense at #1 for Cleveland

Joel Embiid makes sense at #1 for Cleveland

With the NBA Draft just 27 days away there have been many rumors, reports, stories on certain players and teams on what their plans could be on June 26th. Whether to believe those rumors, stories, and reports fully is up to you as often times some are true and some are just smokescreens from teams. The truth is only teams know exactly what they want to do, and their plans are most likely nowhere near concrete at this point.

With that being said, this mock draft will be the first of many and will likely change as we get closer to June 26th. Now let’s get started!

1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Joel Embiid, C, Kansas

Joel Embiid is one of the most intriguing players in this draft. He is arguably the most talented player coming out, but also has one of the biggest risk/reward headline as well due to his back injury he has been dealing with. If healthy, Embiid will come in and be an immediate impact player on the defensive side of the floor and on the glass, which is a huge need for Cleveland going forward.

5 Players The 76ers Would Love To Draft

September 19th, 2013 by Leo | Comments Off on 5 Players The 76ers Would Love To Draft | Filed in Basketball, General, Sixers

sixers draft

We’ve had a few months to cool off since the 76ers orchestrated one of the most intriguing NBA Draft nights and general team overhauls in anyone’s memory. Long story short, Philly unloaded Jrue Holiday for a combination of Kentucky center Nerlens Noel and the New Orleans Pelicans’ top-5 protected 1st round pick in 2014, and then used its own pick on Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams.

So where does that leave the 76ers? Simply put, “re-build mode.” Sure, there are useful pieces. Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young remain; Nerlens Noel is a potential stud defender in the paint; and Michael Carter-Williams is one of the most promising rookies in the league. In fact, if you glance at the Betfair exchange – an online casino with an extensive sports book with various betting opportunities – MCW has top-10 odds to win rookie of the year. He’s an excellent floor leader with significant potential.

But the real focus is on Philly’s draft picks. If we assume the 76ers will be a lottery team in 2014 (they’ll probably get a very high pick), and that New Orleans finishes better than the bottom 5 (which seems likely), Philly could have 2 lottery picks in the most loaded draft in a decade. So, who should the 76ers target? Here are 5 players who would be great fits in Philly.

  • Andrew Wiggins – Called by most the best prospect since Lebron James, Wiggins is a blockbuster talent. Regardless of position or fit, he’d be any team’s top target – and it just so happens he’d fill a specific need on the wing in Philly, and should be able to score instantly.
