TalkSportsPhilly’s 10th Anniversary

February 9th, 2020 by Leo | No Comments | Filed in General, PhillyWood, Sports, TalkSportsPhilly, TSP Radio

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of TalkSportsPhilly in the Philly media.  It has been a privilege to be in the Philly Sports Market for so long.  It’s not easy participating in such a competitive market as Philadelphia.  One of TSP’s premises was to allow anyone a opportunity to be in the sports market that normally would be locked out of the corporate sports market.  We gave opportunity to many writers over the years ranging from High School, College, to professionals in between jobs and wanted to stay active.  Over the years, this rag tag group of writers has published thousands of articles, covered tons of events, participated with charities, produced video and radio shows and gathered a large following on Social Media.

We are hoping to have an event this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary if we are able.  TSP has overcome some significant hurdles during its 10 years (details in PhillyWood Story) and has been able to survive and co-exist with the big boys of Comcast, 94 WIP, 97.5 Fanatic, Fox 29, and other local media.  It has been an honor to provide a unique style of coverage and wide range of diversity to the Philly Sports Market.

PhillyWood Spotlight…what’s the difference

April 15th, 2018 by Leo | Comments Off on PhillyWood Spotlight…what’s the difference | Filed in General, Matrix, PhillyWood, Twitter

Here is a good posting by BrightPlanet that give a good base definition of the difference between the Deep and Dark Web.  TalkSportsPhilly’s PhillyWood Project spotlights information outside of the Sports Arena and this is the first spotlight article in the series.

“Earlier this week, Forbes released an article titled “Insider Trading on the Dark Web”. BrightPlanet was mentioned within the article, and BrightPlanet was introduced as a company that collects content from what is called the Dark Web.  While we appreciate being mentioned in Forbes, there are a few definitions we want to clear up for readers.

With recent emphasis being on the Silk Road shutdown by the media, we’ve found a significant misunderstanding of the terms Surface Web, Deep Web, and Dark Web. We hope that this posting can help guide you through these often confused terms and get a better understanding of how the web works.  You’ll understand that Forbes’ definition of Dark Web content was indeed inaccurate. Let’s get started.

Starting with the Surface

To start on our journey of the different aspects of the web, we’ll begin with the surface; the parts you’re most familiar with. The Surface Web is anything that can be indexed by a typical search engine like Google, Bing or Yahoo. Google has a great interactive story explaining how they index and search the web in depth.

Martin Luther King should be Celebrated

February 12th, 2018 by Kyle Lutz | Comments Off on Martin Luther King should be Celebrated | Filed in General, PhillyWood, Sports, TalkSportsPhilly

Before and after his April 4, 1968 assassination, legendary activist, religious figure and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has made a significant impact on America to this day.

His impact is so strong, America started to observe a federal holiday in his name — known as Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In 1983, former U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law and it was first observed three years later. It falls on the third Monday of January for each year.

On Jan. 15, 1929, Martin Luther King, Jr. [born Michael King, Jr. ] was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His father, Martin Luther King, Sr., was a reverend, Baptist pastor and Civil Rights figure. His mother, Alberta was a teacher before retiring to be a homemaker. In addition to MLK, Alberta gave birth to two other children, a boy and a girl.

King’s family, including his mother prior to her teaching career, came from a long line of Christian pastors and preachers, yet while some people may refuse to continue in their family’s footsteps, King stuck to his roots.

In the ‘60s, racial tensions were very high. The ‘60s were a time of significant change in American culture. Music was changing, politics were changing, and people were changing. Yet most people’s views on race weren’t. By each decade, Americans’ opinions are always going to be at change, but in this case, accepting other ethnic groups’ views and ideals was difficult.
