Back in Black!    That’s right, Monday night’s divisional battle against the hated New York Giants will once again be a “Blackout”.   Last season, the Eagles opened up prime-time play against the Giants with a “Blackout”.   That game resulted in the Birds first shutout in 18 years.   The team out-gained the Giants by a rate of almost 2:1 in total yards.   They drove Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib to the turf, a combined 8 times.   Point blank, they completely and utterly dominated the game.   Now, I’m not saying this game will be a repeat of last season.  But, I truly believe that the black uniforms do something special to this team.  The Eagles are riding high, after coming off of a dominating win over the New Orleans Saints.

In that game, DeMarco Murray finally found his footing, tallying a total of 100+ yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.  The passing game really started to find its’ rythym, going for well over 300 yards.  The team should ride into this game, full of confidence and swagger.  On the other hand, so should the Giants.  They are the lone team atop the NFC East at 3-2, following a controversial come from behind win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.  Needless to say, this should be a good one.

Blackout coming to Philadelphia on Monday Night

October 13th, 2015 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Blackout coming to Philadelphia on Monday Night | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL

The Philadelphia Eagles made an official announcement last night that the team will wear their all black jerseys on Monday Night against the division rival New York Giants.

Of course, this is the second year in a row that the Eagles will wear the all black uniforms against the Giants in prime-time football. Last year the Eagles dominated the Giants 27-0 on a Sunday night in week 6 to improve to 5-1 going into the bye week.

This time around the Eagles will be looking to improve to 3-3 and grab a share of first place in the NFC East.

Eagles vs Redskins Opening Day Preview

September 8th, 2013 by Leo | Comments Off on Eagles vs Redskins Opening Day Preview | Filed in Eagles, Football, General

So the season opener for the Eagles is finally here. There is a lot of anticipation for the 2013 season with the new coach Chip Kelly at the helm. There was also controversy and competition at the Quarterback position with Michael Vick winning the job over Nick Foles. There was the Riley Cooper controversy over an angry outburst with racial overtones. There was the loss of Maclin to an injury and all of this has left the fans wondering what the Eagles record will be.

From most of the feedback I have heard and the poll TalkSportsPhilly ran, the range for the Eagles record is from 6-10 to 9-7. I personally said it would be 7-9. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Eagles surprised us all with a winning record and a playoff berth under the new coach.

Their first test this year will be against last year’s division winning Washington Redskins led by RG III. The question is will Griffin be affected by his knee injury that caused him to miss preseason. The Eagles plan on playing a healthy RG III and are prepared for that scenario. RG III told reporters that he will not change his style of play because of the injury.

For the Eagles, the question will be how will Vick perform in Chip Kelly’s offensive scheme. This is Vick’s 12th year in the NFL and he has another chance to prove himself to the Philly Fans. The Eagles need to establish a running game with McCoy and Vick needs to stay contained and hit his receivers. The Redskins are planning to put pressure on Vick so the offensive line will be key as well. The Defense needs to contain RG III and keep the points down. If the Eagles can do these things I believe they will win a close one over the Redskins! Lets see.

Johnny G’s Thanksgiving Day NFL Pick

Dallas Cowboys Vs. Oakland Raiders 4:15 pm on CBS

After taking the Titans on Monday Night Football (+4) and winning outright over the Texans, my record now stands at 8-1. I am giving out one selection for free on Thanksgiving and there will be 4 picks posted by Saturday for the games on Sunday. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your winnings.

In this game we have the Cowboys coming off an overall terrible performance by their offense against a struggling Washington Redskins team, where they needed a last minute touchdown to pull out a one point victory. On the other side, we have the Oakland Raiders coming off their biggest win of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Raiders came into that game as 10 point underdogs and were not given much of a chance to win the game with Jamarcus Russell being benched in favor of Bruce Gradkowski.

Johnny G’s Monday Night Football Pick

November 23rd, 2009 by Johnny G | 9 Comments | Filed in Football, General

Houston Texans Vs. Tennessee Titans 8:30pm on ESPN

After going 7-1 with my first 8 picks, starting with a (4-0) sweep in week 10 and following that up with a (3-1) showing in Week 11- Here is my analysis and pick for Monday night.

The Houston Texans enter this game fresh off their bye week and are in hot pursuit of the best record in franchise history, which is not as prestigious when your franchise has never had a .500 record. The Texans currently sit at 5-4 and although there are many question marks on both sides of the ball, they have an extremely dangerous and explosive offense even with the absence of emerging TE Owen Daniels. Matt Schaub is in the midst of a career season and is clicking on all cylinders with All-pro WR Andre Johnson, while also spreading the ball around to his solid group of secondary receivers in Kevin Walter, and Jacoby Jones. On the other side of the ball, the defense is improving but still would not intimidate anyone in the NFL and they will have a daunting task ahead of them, by having to contain the NFL’s leading rusher, Chris Johnson.

On the other hand, you have the Titans who started the season 0-6 with Kerry Collins at the helm. Since that horrendous start, Collins has been replaced by former first round pick Vince Young and the offensive scheme is now run almost exclusively through Chris Johnson. At this point in the season, you are looking at the best 3-6 football team in the league and by all accounts are the same team that went 13-3 in 2008. With Vince Young now managing this offense and not trying to win games all by himself, Tennessee is suddenly very dangerous to play every week. Now that the defense is also playing similar to last season, this is a team that could conceivably run the table and finish at 10-6 if things fell their way.

This game will come down to if the Texans can deal with the wear and tear throughout the game of the Titans offensive line pounding away at them. The Titans will not abandon the run if it does not work early, they will continue to pound away at the Texans and mix in plenty of play-action fakes. At the end of the day the overall wear and tear on this defense will be too much for the Texans to handle. Look for Vince Young to play well but he will not win this game on his own by any means and the game will be shortened by the Titans running game, preventing Schaub from spending too much time on the field. The mess in the Texans backfield will not help matters, as Steve Slaton recently regained his starting job after losing it to journeyman and former Eagle, Ryan Moats because of a fumbling problem. This game will be at least be worth watching, unlike the pitiful game that the NFL put on primetime last week between the Browns and the Ravens. Take the Titans on the road in this contest plus the points.
