2016 NBA Mock Draft

May 30th, 2016 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on 2016 NBA Mock Draft | Filed in Basketball, General, NBA, Sixers, Sports, TalkSportsPhilly

The NBA Draft Lottery is officially twelve days in our rear-view mirror, and the Philadelphia 76ers are on the clock. They have until June 23rd to make the decision that will alter the course of the franchise. Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram? In what is widely considered to be a “two-player draft”, there are a number of good prospects that fall past that top-2 threshold. Prospects such as Buddy Hield, Kris Dunn, Jaylen Brown, and Dragen Bender among others round out the top-10. Over the past 10 days, I have spent time researching the prospects of this upcoming draft, and I feel that this representation of the NBA Draft will come close to the real thing. Without further hesitation, let’s get right down to it..

1.) Philadelphia 76ers- Ben Simmons (PF/LSU)

With the 1st pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select…Ben Simmons. Those will be the words uttered by commissioner Adam Silver on draft night, as the Sixers begin the post-Hinkie era. I’ll be honest, while I’m not thrilled with the way Simmons performed in his lone year with LSU, you’d be crazy to pass up on the possibility of a once-in-a-lifetime prospect.

2.) Los Angeles Lakers- Brandon Ingram (SF/Duke)

The Lakers had luck on their side twelve days ago, as they were able to avoid surrendering their pick to the Sixers. Now that they’ve finished in second to the Sixers, the Lakers will have to settle for the second-best player in the draft. Ingram’s a very-good, borderline great player, and he’ll fit in wonderfully with a Lakers team that includes D’Angelo Russell, and Julius Randle. The future for Los Angeles post-Kobe, is bright following this selection.

Final Philadelphia Eagles 7-Round Mock

April 22nd, 2016 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on Final Philadelphia Eagles 7-Round Mock | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL, Sports, TalkSportsPhilly

The Eagles shocked the football world yesterday, by leapfrogging six other teams to land the second overall pick. That trade dropped the Eagles draft pick haul from nine picks, down to a total of seven. Prior to that trade, the common thought process was that the Eagles would select Ezekiel Elliott with the eighth overall pick. Following this deal, it’s widely expected that the Birds will select a quarterback with #2. Where they go beyond that selection?  Well, that is what remains a mystery. I’m here to give my thoughts on how the Eagles will draft next weekend.

NFL Mock Draft: Version 3.0- Final Call

April 15th, 2016 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on NFL Mock Draft: Version 3.0- Final Call | Filed in Eagles, General, NFL, Sports, TalkSportsPhilly

The NFL Draft is exactly two weeks away, and things are beginning to heat up in a big way. Rumors are flying everywhere, and the first trade of the draft has already been agreed to. Earlier this morning, the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans agreed to a deal that would send the Rams up to the top pick in the draft, while the Titans drop back to 15th overall, while picking up an addition first rounder in 2017, a pair of second round picks this year, and a third round pick in both the 2016 and 2017 draft. With the draft being turned on its’ proverbial head, so has my mock draft. Due to that fact, I am here to do my third (and final!) NFL Mock Draft. Let’s get right down to business..

1.) Los Angeles Rams (via Tennessee Titans)- Jared Goff [QB/California]

Not even 12 hours after Kobe Bryant’s retirement game went final, the Rams stunned us all by making this move. Depending on who you listen to, it’s either Goff or Wentz going to L.A. After thinking about it, my money is on the Rams taking the homegrown talent.

2.) Cleveland Browns- Carson Wentz (QB/North Dakota State)

NFL Mock Draft 3.0

Just over twenty-four hours remain until the spolight shines bright on the Windy City.  Starting this Thursday night, the NFL’s most exciting period will take center stage.  Two-hundred fifty-six youngsters will have their name called over the span of this three-day event. A number of others will find their ways on to NFL rosters as UDFAs (UnDrafted Free Agents). In my previous mock draft, I stated that it would be my final mock.  However, after long consideration and research, I have decided to go against what was said and created a third mock draft.  I can assure everyone that this will be final one. There are some new faces to this mock, as things have significantly changed in this version.

#1- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston (QB/Florida State)

I still believe that Winston is the best option for the Bucs here. His athleticism is extraordinary, and if he can overcome his off-field immaturity, Winston will be a force in the NFL. Although, there is a ton of risk that goes into this pick. When most people look at Jameis, they see Michael Vick.  Unfortunately, when I look at Winston, I see Jamarcus Russell.

#2- Philadelphia Eagles (via Tennesee Titans)- Marcus Mariota (QB/Oregon)

This is about as obvious, as one pick can get.  However, it’s also the most difficult one to predict.  There are a number of teams that are looking to trade up for Mariota, as many consider him to be a “QB of the future”.  The New York Jets, San Diego Chargers, and Cleveland Browns are all teams that join the Eagles in the Mariota chase.  The lone difference between the Birds and the other three?  Only Chip Kelly will be crazy enough to pay the asking price.  The Titans are able to squeeze the Eagles for Sam Bradford, Mychael Kendricks, #20 Overall, their 2016 1sr round pick, and Fletcher Cox.
