TSP Eagles Analysis by 94 WIP

As I read this article by Eliot Shorr-Parks, I inquired to him earlier about comment and talk about the last Eagles game, Eliot never got back to TSP to answer, We do agree that Howard coming back will plug a huge whole in the Eagles lineup.  A strong runner is the key to opening up this whole Eagles offense, what there is left of it though. Lets keep our fingers crossed and TSP thanks Eliot and 94WIP for their contribution to this article, hopefully further collaboration happens in the future.  Another Game review will be released before game on Sunday against the Giants.  Happy Holidays to all!

The Prodigy Returns

September 23rd, 2018 by Leo | Comments Off on The Prodigy Returns | Filed in Eagles, Football, NFL

Carson Wentz’s return from injury will be one of the greatest moments in Philadelphia sports history.

Make no mistake about it, Carson Wentz turned the Eagles franchise around and brought them their first championship in six decades. Sure, Nick Foles stepped into the role and had a marvelous run, quarterbacking the team through the playoffs and an electrifying Super Bowl win. But Foles and his teammates rode Wentz’s spirit to victory. They followed the path blazed by Wentz, and were infused with the confidence that can only be inspired by a player endowed with divine abilities. Carson Wentz took a team, and a city for that matter, that had been so demoralized from fifty-seven years of losing, and changed their DNA. He changed their destiny.

So, on Sunday, September 23rd, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., savor what you are witnessing. Listen to the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field when Carson Wentz trots out of the tunnel onto the hallowed grass of his home turf. There will be a roar you will not hear again in your lifetime. Because the fans know innately what this wunderkind did. Generations feel it in their marrow. And they will welcome back their young, gridiron general with the enthusiasm and reverence reserved for only the greatest of warriors. It will be, well, let’s call it a religious experience.

That’s what Carson Wentz means to Philadelphia.

To take a peek back, it’s hard to believe what Wentz has accomplished in less than two years as a pro.

Eagles and the SuperBowl

May 27th, 2016 by Leo | Comments Off on Eagles and the SuperBowl | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL

superbowl2017

As we know here in Philly, the last time the Eagles won a championship was in 1960 and one of the only major franchises to not win a superbowl.  The philly fans are clamoring for a superbowl so bad that when that day finally comes I fear for the city during the celebration and parade.  So as we look to next season with the Eagles with Sam Bradford at the helm or will it be rookie Carson Wentz, it doesn’t look the Eagles are posed to bring home a SuperBowl win for the city.  Certainly things will be interesting as there currently is no clear No. 1 QB and neither have 1oo percent secured the starting position this early in the year.  There was an interesting article on NFL.com dicussing the situation.

Now that it is post draft who are the favorites and where do the Eagles stand in the mix.  Well, so far the odds on favorites are 3 of the teams who didn’t make it to SuperBowl 50: Pittsburgh, New England, and Seattle.  The trio are all scoring high odds so far to win SuperBowl 51 on February 5th, 2017 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The other teams who are in the hunt next year are Green Bay, Arizona, Carolina, Cincinatti and SuperBowl Champions from 2016, the Denver Broncos.  Peyton Manning should be an interesting story to watch as he did not announce his retirement yet but most feel that SuperBowl 50 will be his last game.

How do the Eagles fair in the rankings to win the SuperBowl?  Well, as us Philly fans always like to believe this will be the year, most have succumbed to reality and figure we don’t have a chance.  It is possible that in the weak NFC East division that the Eagles have an outside chance of winning the division and making the playoffs, but they would have to overcome their higher ranked rivals, Dallas, the Giants, and Washington.  So where are the Eagles ranked so far?  The answer is 23rd, not the worst, but holding a 50-1 odds chance of winning the big one.  Don’t feel so bad though, Chip Kelly and the San Francisco 49ers are at the bottom of the list if you are wondering.

If you would like the take a look at who the Eagles drafted, there was a great article put out Grading the 2016 draft on TalkSportsPhilly earlier in the year.  Keep your heads up Philly fans as there will be a lot to talk about this year no matter what happens.

2016 NFL Draft: Grading Each Eagles Draft Pick

Three days of the NFL Draft has come and gone. Our Philadelphia Eagles held seven selections over the three-day event, with their first pick being second overall. They made shockwaves by moving from 13th overall to eighth in a trade with Miami. Then, last week they made a blockbuster with Cleveland to jump up to second overall. As always with the NFL Draft, some picks are no-brainers, others are decent picks, and there are picks that leave you questioning the selection. In this post, I am going to analyze the Eagles draft picks, and will grade them based on my thoughts.

First Round (2nd Overall): Carson Wentz/QB- North Dakota State

I love this pick, absolutely love it. The Eagles believe Wentz is their franchise quarterback, and so do I. He’s got all the skills, and his intangibles are fantastic. He’s drawn many comparisons to Andrew Luck, and I for one feel comfortable with that comparison. With this selection, the Eagles found themselves their quarterback for the next 10-12 years. Hopefully, a Super Bowl will find itself into that time frame, as well.

GRADE: A+

Philadelphia Eagles: 2016 Offseason Outlook

January 4th, 2016 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on Philadelphia Eagles: 2016 Offseason Outlook | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL, TalkSportsPhilly

A New Year is now upon us, and I would like to wish everyone a Happy 2016 on behalf of the staff here at TalkSportsPhilly.

Now that we’ve got that out-of-the-way, a once interesting off-season now seems all the more interesting.

In a bombshell announcement on Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have fired head coach Chip Kelly.  Kelly led the team to a 26-21 record in his almost three full seasons as head coach. Only one of those seasons saw a NFC East championship come back to the City of Brotherly Love.

There’s no secret when it comes to Chip Kelly.  He took the NFL by storm in his first season, winning the NFC East.  The following year, he led the team to a 10-6 season, but faltered down the stretch. Having faltered, the Eagles lost their grip on the NFC East and resulted in missing the playoffs.  For some reason, Chip was then given the keys to the ship. Jeffrey Lurie believed that it as a good idea to make Chip “the guy” and give him complete control. Well, the absolute power went to Kelly’s head.  He tore this team to shreds. As a result of the outgoing talent and influx of new players, this team has wound up at 6-9.

It took 16 weeks, but the Eagles are finally eliminated from the NFC East race. Having lost five of their last seven games, the Eagles have no-one to blame, but themselves for ending their own season. The team has dropped games this season, that they’ve had absolutely no business dropping.  As the season started, it was the offense that cost us games. Defensively, this team stood on its’ damn head to keep us afloat. Holding the Cowboys to a single offensive touchdown in their week 2 loss should’ve been enough for a win. Hell, holding the Falcons to 26 points during the opening game should’ve resulted in a win. But, the Eagles offense failed to live up to their potential, resulting in a pair of heart-breaking losses. As the season has advance, the offense has continued to struggle mightily, and as a result- the defense has seen frequent exhaustion. With the defense constantly on the field, they started burning out easily resulting in an increase in points allowed per game. To just get straight to my point, the Eagles have severely underachieved. Whatever the reason for the Eagles struggles is, it’s glaringly obvious that something has to change in the offseason.

That my dear readers, is why I am here. Through this article, I will layout the offseason that our Eagles face ahead.  Additionally, I will take a look at potential replacements for Chip Kelly, following his shocking departure.

So without further delay, let’s get right down to it.

Report: DeMarco Murray will play Sunday vs. Jets

September 25th, 2015 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Report: DeMarco Murray will play Sunday vs. Jets | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL

Eagles running back DeMarco Murray will play this Sunday according to a report from ESPN’s Ashley Fox.

The report is good news for the Eagles and their fans after Murray suffered a hamstring injury this week at practice, which caused his status for Sunday to be up in the air.

The Eagles are desperate to get their new running back going, after rushing for 11 yards on 21 carries in the first two games of the year. This week won’t get any easier for Murray or the Eagles against a very good defense in the New York Jets.

Chip the Savior … or was it the Destroyer?

I have a plan!

I have to say that the state of the Eagles is the worst I have seen it in my lifetime.  I don’t think most of us saw it coming.  But we were dazzled by the plethora of moves the Eagles made in the off-season in their efforts to dismantle a winning team in the name of Chip’s vision.  Well, it hasn’t paid off as of yet to say the least.

We traded away a core group of talented young players, namely, Foles, McCoy, Maclin.  We gutted out some veterans like Cole, Herremans and Mathis.  What did we get?  A mish-mash of players who have not gelled as a team cause they haven’t played enough together.

My draw dropped when I heard the Eagles traded away Foles, a franchise QB and winning rookie QB about to start the prime of his career for a former injured and unproven Bradford.  My reservations were confirmed after watching what was arguably the worst game I ever saw a NFL franchise play.
