We’re approximately 24 hours removed from the two blockbuster trades that were made by the Eagles on Monday. By now, I’m sure that Eagles fans have had a chance to digest what happened yesterday, and hopefully make sense of it. If you’re an Eagles fan that has yet to make sense of the deal, then look no further. In this article, I will take an in-depth look at the trades made yesterday, what they mean for Free Agency, the Draft, and the team’s culture going forward.

Entering Monday, the Eagles had about $18.5 million to work with in cap room. With the legal tampering period scheduled to begin yesterday, it was expected that the Eagles would be busy. Just how busy they were, was not expected. There were no discussions with Free Agents, nor their agents. Instead, the Eagles opted to clear more cap space, by working on a pair of blockbuster trades. The first trade, as reported first by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, would see Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso head to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for “draft pick compensation.”

Breaking: Eagles trade DeMarco Murray to Titans

March 8th, 2016 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Breaking: Eagles trade DeMarco Murray to Titans | Filed in Eagles, Football, NFL

In what has been a crazy day so far that has already featured Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso being sent to Miami, Howie Roseman wasn’t done there.

According to multiple reports, running back DeMarco Murray is being traded to the Tennessee Titans. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

Adam Schefter is also reporting that the return for the Eagles will include draft pick compensation, similar to the Maxwell/Alonso trade.

Murray was signed by the Eagles last year to a five-year, $40 million deal, however, the running back was not happy with his role in Chip Kelly’s offense or Philadelphia in general. In 2015 Murray ran for 702 yards on 193 carries, which was a vast drop off from his over 1,800 yard rushing performance in 2014.

Oh boy, here we go again!    Seven weeks after the first meeting between these two teams, and they meet yet again….practically in identical positions. The Birds will walk into AT&T Stadium on  Sunday Night, with a 3-4 record.  They will once again wage war, with the 2-5 Dallas Cowboys.   The Eagles are coming off of a bye week, in which they had to reflect on a demoralizing loss to the Carolina Panthers.  Meanwhile, the Cowboys are riding a two game losing streak, having dropped games to the Seahawks and Giants.

This game couldn’t be more pivotal for either team, as it will essentially eliminate one of these teams from the NFC East divisional race.  The ‘Boys have dropped four of their last five games against the Eagles in Arlington, and are current owners of a five-game losing streak.  The Eagles fourteenth-ranked defense will look to take advantage of the Tony Romo-less Cowboys, and make it six-straight losses for Dallas.

Open Letter to Eagles Fans

This is at the exact point I was at after our week two embarrassment against the Cowboys. For the second time in not even a year, I was ready to post an anger-fueled open letter to Eagle fans. Then, they started to win again. The team worked their way back to 3-3, and I guess in my sense, everything was okay, Well, I could not have been more wrong. After the offensive explosion against New Orleans, I anticipated on the team turning a corner. I hoped for much better play. And, I believed that they would finally start living up to the hype, that was building in the preseason. Sunday Night Football in Charlotte provided the Eagles with a great test. That was, until we actually took the field. We sucked. To just put it out there, and not sugar coat it…..we blew! From crippling drops to asinine offensive line play, the Eagles never had a chance from the start.

So, who is to blame at this point of the season? I’m going to break it down for you, in the only way that I can. By not holding back….

Eagles vs Giants (MNF)

Back in Black!    That’s right, Monday night’s divisional battle against the hated New York Giants will once again be a “Blackout”.   Last season, the Eagles opened up prime-time play against the Giants with a “Blackout”.   That game resulted in the Birds first shutout in 18 years.   The team out-gained the Giants by a rate of almost 2:1 in total yards.   They drove Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib to the turf, a combined 8 times.   Point blank, they completely and utterly dominated the game.   Now, I’m not saying this game will be a repeat of last season.  But, I truly believe that the black uniforms do something special to this team.  The Eagles are riding high, after coming off of a dominating win over the New Orleans Saints.

In that game, DeMarco Murray finally found his footing, tallying a total of 100+ yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.  The passing game really started to find its’ rythym, going for well over 300 yards.  The team should ride into this game, full of confidence and swagger.  On the other hand, so should the Giants.  They are the lone team atop the NFC East at 3-2, following a controversial come from behind win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football.  Needless to say, this should be a good one.

Eagles dominate Saints 39-17, improve to 2-3 on the season

October 12th, 2015 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Eagles dominate Saints 39-17, improve to 2-3 on the season | Filed in Eagles, Football, NFL

Fletcher Cox records one of his three sacks against Drew Brees.

The Eagles needed a win. They needed to have their best game of the season to avoid falling to 1-4, a record that would have all but likely eliminated them from the playoffs.

The Eagles didn’t only win, they dominated the New Orleans Saints on Sunday to win 39-17, improving to 2-3 on the season.

After a slow start once again by the Eagles offense, including two interceptions in the end zone by Sam Bradford, the offense finally seemed to hit a rhythm and take off. Sam Bradford had arguably his best game as an Eagles, completing 32-45 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns.

Bradford bounced back from his two early interceptions by hitting Josh Huff, who had his best game in the NFL, for a 41 yard touchdown early in the 2nd quarter. He would also throw another touchdown to Brent Celek with 6:31 to go in the 3rd quarter to extend the Eagles lead to 23-10.

Report: DeMarco Murray will play Sunday vs. Jets

September 25th, 2015 by Sam Shipley | Comments Off on Report: DeMarco Murray will play Sunday vs. Jets | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL

Eagles running back DeMarco Murray will play this Sunday according to a report from ESPN’s Ashley Fox.

The report is good news for the Eagles and their fans after Murray suffered a hamstring injury this week at practice, which caused his status for Sunday to be up in the air.

The Eagles are desperate to get their new running back going, after rushing for 11 yards on 21 carries in the first two games of the year. This week won’t get any easier for Murray or the Eagles against a very good defense in the New York Jets.
