Philadelphia Sports: Soul Home Opener

The Philadelphia Soul (2-0) held their home opener this week at the Wells Fargo Center against the Jacksonville Sharks (0-2).   A good crowd came out to cheer the most winning team in Philadelphia Sports on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  The Soul brought their A game to the arena and made Shark steaks out of Jacksonville defeating them soundly by a score of 63-52.

“The new faces of the roster add a spark this season and lift up the entire team up,” Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel said. “Ryan McDaniel came ready to play like he has since training camp. He has been our offensive leader all season making big plays and catches. Both teams knew each other well and it was an important win to grab in front of our fans for the first time this season.”

The Soul QB Dan Raudabaugh had a great day, he completed 21 of 30 passes for 261 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception.  He was awarded the Russel Athletic Player of the Game for his efforts.  McDaniel’s didn’t disappoint the crowd either, he made some spectacular plays including a one handed touchdown grab.  McDaniels finished the day with 11 receptions for 133 yards and 5 TD’s.

The Soul had the lead at halftime with a score of 35-21 and continued their dominance throughout the second half.  The final score of 63-52 makes it seem as it was a close game but the Sharks had to make a big comeback in the fourth quarter to get within 11 by game’s end.  The two notable players for the Sharks was Tommy Grady, who completed 26-of-41 passes for 346 yards, eight touchdowns, and zero interceptions.  The other player was former Soul Tiger Jones, who led the Sharks with 13 catches for 239 yards and five touchdowns.

First ever Army vs Navy AFL game

Yesterday was a special day in the AFL and for the Soul at the Wells Fargo Center. The combined event featured the Soul vs Iowa Barnstormers.  It was also Military Appreciation day that held a job fair for veterans by the Judge VIP Careers and the First Annual Army vs Navy Arena football game which played after the Soul game.

Soul vs Barnstormers

The Soul (8-5) extended their win streak to 3 in a row by beating the Barnstormers (6-8) with a score of 54-30.  The Soul took an early lead in the game and held the lead throughout the game with QB Dan Raudabaugh leading the offense with 12-of-15 passes for 142 yards and 4 touchdowns. The rushing was led by Derrick Ross, who became the AFL’s all-time leading rusher last week, had 54 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. The receiving core had an impressive outing as well, Ryan McDaniel had 5 receptions for 47 yards and 2 touchdowns, McDaniels also rushed for 1 TD. Tiger Jones had 57 yards on 4 receptions and 2 touchdowns while Andrae Thurman had three catches for 38 yards. The Defense for the Soul was led by Larry Brackins, DB David Richardson and DL Bryan Robinson who helped hold the Barnstormers to just 30 points of offense. The Soul scored on every possesion in the game but one.

On the other side of the ball, the Iowa Barnstormers were led by QB J.J. Raterink who was 15-of-27 for 145 yards with 1 touchdown and 3013 interceptions and substitute QB Brian Reader who finished 13 of 20 for 124 yards with 2 touchdowns. The Barnstormers had the ball on offense much longer than the Soul but were not able to produce many points against the Soul’s stingy defense.

Spokane Shock vs. Philadelphia Soul this Sunday

July 7th, 2012 by Robert Fetsick | Comments Off on Spokane Shock vs. Philadelphia Soul this Sunday | Filed in General, Soul, Sports

Go Soul!!

The Spokane Shock travel to Philadelphia this Sunday to play the Soul, the last time the Soul played the Shock was May 18 in Spokane and the Shock won 65-47.  The Soul look to win on Sunday to improve to 14-3 and already have the Eastern Division Title locked up. They also have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

QB Kyle Rowley for the Shock is having a fantastic year, his QB rating is 110.74, he has thrown for 3,459 yards, has 76 touchdowns and 19 interceptions on the year.  Two weeks ago the Shock beat San Jose Sabrecats 90-63 and Kyle Rowley had his best performance of the year going 30 for 37, passing for 388 yards and threw 12 touchdowns and 1 interception.  Their best wide receiver is Adron Tennell, who stands at 6 foot 5 and his statistics on season is 123 catches for 1,428 yards receiving and 29 touchdowns.  The Soul’s defensive lineman have to put pressure on Rowley and our defensive backs have to contain Tennell and there other wide receivers to have a chance to win the game.

Now for the Soul offense, our QB Dan Raudabaugh is having a fantastic season with his stats on the year being 312 for 466 in completions, he has passed for 4,085 yards,  with 94 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.  We have the best fullback in arena football and his name is Derrick Ross, with his statistics at 481 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns.  Our best wide receiver is Tiger Jones, his statistics on the year are 121 receptions, 1,807 yards receiving and 41 touchdowns.

I’m expecting a high scoring arena football game this Sunday night at Wells Fargo Center which has a 6:05pm start time.
