The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they have released Chip Kelly, a shocking move that many did not expect to happen tonight.

Owner Jeffery Lurie released a statement to Eagles season ticket holders explaining the move:

“I have made a decision to release Chip Kelly this evening. I spent the last three seasons evaluating the many factors involved in our performance as a team. As I watched this season unfold, I determined that it was time to make a change.

As we move forward, the search for a new head coach will begin and will be led by myself, Don Smolenski and Howie Roseman. To the extent that we are able, we will try to keep you informed as we go through this process.

Pat Shurmur will be our interim coach for the Giants game Sunday.

Open Letter to Eagles Fans

This is at the exact point I was at after our week two embarrassment against the Cowboys. For the second time in not even a year, I was ready to post an anger-fueled open letter to Eagle fans. Then, they started to win again. The team worked their way back to 3-3, and I guess in my sense, everything was okay, Well, I could not have been more wrong. After the offensive explosion against New Orleans, I anticipated on the team turning a corner. I hoped for much better play. And, I believed that they would finally start living up to the hype, that was building in the preseason. Sunday Night Football in Charlotte provided the Eagles with a great test. That was, until we actually took the field. We sucked. To just put it out there, and not sugar coat it…..we blew! From crippling drops to asinine offensive line play, the Eagles never had a chance from the start.

So, who is to blame at this point of the season? I’m going to break it down for you, in the only way that I can. By not holding back….

Have The Eagles Really Escaped The “Reid Era”?

October 9th, 2015 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on Have The Eagles Really Escaped The “Reid Era”? | Filed in Eagles, Football, General, NFL

Four weeks into the NFL season, and the Eagles are in a very unfamiliar position…..a losing position. Following a pair of heart-breaking losses to the Falcons and Cowboys, the Birds bounced back with a critical win over the New York Jets. Just when people thought that the team had turned a corner, they took a gut-wrenching loss against the Washington Redskins, dropping the team to an 0-2 divisional record. That loss also further dug the team in a hole, that’s becoming very difficult to climb out of. After four weeks of dreadful play on both sides of the ball, fans have been forced to ask this question…..have we really moved past the Andy Reid era?

We’re about two and a quarter seasons into the Chip Kelly era, and outside of one season, there has not been much special going on.  To date, Chip is 21-15, but has yet to score a playoff victory…..a victory that in the grand scheme of things, mean EVERYTHING to Philly fans.  If you’re not successful in the postseason, you’re not long for this city.  When comparing Chip Kelly to his predecessor Andy Reid, there hasn’t been much change in any way.

When Chip Kelly made his NFL debut in the 2013 season, the Philadelphia crowd was excited. Kelly brought something new to the team…..he brought excitement, and unpredictability. Chip came to town, with a freshness that the city has lacked since Andy Reid took over in 1999. The Eagles surprised a lot of teams that season, soaring to a 10-6 record behind Kelly’s fast-paced, Oregon-style offense. They seemed destined for big things, until they were upset at home by the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round.

Following that year, Philadelphia had become Kellyville. “In Chip We Trust” became the city’s slogan.  The 2014 season couldn’t have started off better for Chip.  The Birds stormed off to an impressive 7-2 start, before suffering a mortifying decimation, at the hands of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.  From there, they won two straight, including a Thanksgiving victory over the Cowboys.  But, things quickly went downhill, as the team finished 1-3, missing the playoffs and surrendering the division title to the Cowboys.

The 2014-15 off-season, saw Chip Kelly take over as Eagles General Manager (for all intents and kellyreid2purposes..).  From that point, the Eagles quickly saw a monumental overhaul, the likes of which have never been seen in such a short time period.  In a span of about a month and a half, the Eagles saw Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin, Trent Cole, Cary Williams, Todd Herremans, and others booking their flights out-of-town.  On the flip side, the team also saw the influx of Byron Maxwell, DeMarco Murray, Sam Bradford, Walter Thurmond, and a whole draft class full of rookies.

Chip the Savior … or was it the Destroyer?

I have a plan!

I have to say that the state of the Eagles is the worst I have seen it in my lifetime.  I don’t think most of us saw it coming.  But we were dazzled by the plethora of moves the Eagles made in the off-season in their efforts to dismantle a winning team in the name of Chip’s vision.  Well, it hasn’t paid off as of yet to say the least.

We traded away a core group of talented young players, namely, Foles, McCoy, Maclin.  We gutted out some veterans like Cole, Herremans and Mathis.  What did we get?  A mish-mash of players who have not gelled as a team cause they haven’t played enough together.

My draw dropped when I heard the Eagles traded away Foles, a franchise QB and winning rookie QB about to start the prime of his career for a former injured and unproven Bradford.  My reservations were confirmed after watching what was arguably the worst game I ever saw a NFL franchise play.

Tim Tebow Time…But not in Philly

September 9th, 2015 by Leo | Comments Off on Tim Tebow Time…But not in Philly | Filed in Eagles, General, NFL, Sports

timtebow

Well, we all enjoyed our Tim Tebow Time in Philly while he was here.  I would like to throw my 2 cents in on the topic since TSP didn’t jump on the Tebow media hype wagon. Personally, I would have taken Tebow as the third string QB for the Eagles and here is why:

First, he is a gritty competitor, he will play to win and could be a great emotional support in rallying a team…This can overcome any shortcomings in particular skills.

Second, he has experience starting and playoff experience, we are talking about a third string QB.

Third, he is a decent runner and can give the option of special play situations in which he would fit the bill, and would give the offense another option, even if it was on a rare occasion.

I do know Chip doesn’t like primadonna’s and Tebow would have brought a whole fan base with him and would have taken a lot of attention off the team, Chip wants to be in command and having a third string QB with that much media attention could be a detriment to Chip’s vision.

How many games will the Eagles Win in 2015?

September 2nd, 2015 by Leo | Comments Off on How many games will the Eagles Win in 2015? | Filed in Eagles, Football, NFL, Polls

TalkSportsPhilly Poll

tsppoll

With the Eagles Season about to start and a final pre-season game coming up, I think most Eagles fans are wondering what’s in store for the season.  Nobody can complain about the pre-season, the Eagles look fantastic and all cylinders are firing as the season gets set to begin.eaglescool3

The organization and Chip Kelly made a ton of changes to the team and released some big players, so only time will tell if Chip is a genius or a #@##@#.  Bradford is looking good and the offense seems like it will be unstoppable, but can the defense hold up?

So the question TalkSportsPhilly poses to the Eagles and Philly Sports Fans is:

What will be the Eagles record for 2015??
