In the sport of professional wrestling, there are two things that can make you a superstar. You’re ability to “cut a promo”, and entertain an audience through your words. The alternative route, is by amazing an audience with your in-ring work. While there are few in the business that can cut a good promo, there are even fewer who can leave you awe-struck with their work between the ropes. For wrestling fans, Bryan Danielson (Ring Name- Daniel Bryan) was the best of both worlds. Unfortunately for wrestling fans, the best of both worlds has come to a heartbreaking end. Danielson, who has been rumored to be appearing on Raw in his home of Seattle, Washington, took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to make a devastating, yet all-too-expected announcement.

The illustrious 17-year career of one of the most talented in-ring workers in history, has come to an abrupt end.

Surviving Seth’s Absence

November 8th, 2015 by Ryan Waterman | Comments Off on Surviving Seth’s Absence | Filed in General, TalkSportsPhilly, Wrestling

Ever since cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase back at WrestleMania 31, Seth Rollins has CTEowo0WsAE_J80dominated the WWE. For just about 9 months, opponents have been set up in front of him. And for 9 months, he has knocked down every single one. John Cena, Dean Ambrose (technically), Sting, and Brock Lesnar (technically) are among the numerous names on Rollins’ “hit list”. With the 29th annual Survivor Series approaching quickly, fans were left to wonder…..who, if anyone could dethrone Rollins? Roman Reigns was next up on Rollins’ list, and it seemed like he could be the one to knock Seth off of his perch. Well….at least, we thought he was.

TSP would like to wish Seth Rollins a speedy recovery…..

As events would have it, Seth Rollins would wind up being the man to dethrone Seth Rollins. News broke late Thursday afternoon, that the WWE World Heavyweight Champion had vacated the title, after suffering tears in his ACL, MCL, and Medial Meniscus. The estimated recovery time given was a 6-9 month timetable.

When most people think of TalkSportsPhilly, they envision pages and pages of articles on the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers. While that is true, we at TSP also like to provide diversity for our readers. We’ve endeavored into articles on Penn State, and Temple. In the coming weeks, we plan to dive deep into the College Football Playoff/Bowl scene, and there is also a weekly NFL pick’em on the horizon for the TSP staff.

However, this time, we are going outside of the box, as they say. This article will be our first edition of a monthly WWE Pay-Per-View review. Once a month, my brother Robert Waterman and I will break down, and give our thoughts on WWE’s PPV. This month, we start off with what most expect to be a barbaric event….Hell In A Cell!

Match 1: Alberto Del Rio (w/Zeb Colter) defeats John Cena to win the WWE United States Championship

Ryan’s Take- This match was actually one of the few WWE matches that has excited me this year.   Cena has spent the better part of the last seven months, lining opponents up every week and knocking them down.   Cesaro, Ziggler, Rusev, etc….he has beaten them all.   It got to the point, that there was no one left that we have yet to see John face.   That led to the speculation and anticipation of a major debut of an NXT star.   Baron Corbin, Tyler Breeze, James Storm, or even Samoa Joe.  They were all brought up as possibilities.   This match could have even led to the surprising return of Daniel Bryan.   However, it was none of these men to answer the challenge, no sir.  It was the rather shocking return of former WWE & World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio.  I truly believe that WWE dropped the ball with this match.   They had a golden chance to create a new star, with the monumental impact of defeating John Cena for the United States Championship, in their first match. Instead, they bring back a former star that has accomplished all that he can with the company.   What does that prove?    Absolutely nothing.   It was a very perplexing move by the WWE, and I’m a little curious to see how it goes over.
