Eagles line up interviews for Head Coaching job

January 4th, 2016 by Sam Shipley | Filed under Eagles, NFL.

The Eagles ended their disappointing 2015-16 season yesterday with a 35-30 win over the New York Giants to finish the season at 7-9. The win came after the firing of Chip Kelly, and also had some impact on the Eagles draft position come April. Had the Eagles lost the game yesterday, they would have picked 10th in the NFL Draft, however, they will now pick 13th.

With the regular season over the fun is about to begin. The offseason for the Eagles is officially here and that means free agency, the draft, trades, and a new coach. There are many enticing names that have been reported as potential candidates, including Sean McDermott, Adam Gase, Josh McDaniels, and even Sean Payton.

So far it has been reported that the Eagles have already interviewed former player and current running backs coach Duce Staley.

The Eagles will also interview Pat Shurmur, who filled in as interim head coach yesterday, and Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase in the next two days, according to a report by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Gase is an intriguing possibility to coach the Eagles next season due to his success with quarterbacks in the past, and is expected to be one of the hottest names on the coaching market.

He revived Jay Cutler in Chicago this season and played a role in helping a quarterback who threw his least amount of interceptions in his career when playing an entire season. Cutler also had his second highest completion percentage of his career, and tied his career high in yards per pass attempt. Gase also worked previously with Peyton Manning in Denver.
