According to Jim Salisbury, there is a growing confidence that Jonathan Papelbon will be traded.

One team that has been involved in rumors for Papelbon is the Washington Nationals, and according to Ken Rosenthal the Nationals seem like they are right in the mix for Papelbon.

UPDATE (7/28/15, 1:34 PM):

According to a report by Jim Salisbury, Jonathan Papelbon will be traded. However, where he will be traded is still an unknown.

“‘Papelbon will be traded,” a baseball source with knowledge of the situation told on Tuesday…Fox Sports reports that Papelbon could be headed to the NL East rival Washington Nationals. ThePhillies would likely have to agree to pay part of Papelbon’s option for next season to get a deal done. That should not be a problem as the Phils are eager to move Papelbon.”

The one team still to keep an eye on and are considered to be in the lead for Papelbon is the Nationals.

UPDATE (7/28/15, 4:06 PM):

Jayson Stark is reporting that a trade to the Washington Nationals is “likely”, but both teams are still working through “hurdles”.


UPDATE (7/28/15, 7:05 PM): 

Jonathan Papelbon has been traded to the Washington Nationals for Double-A RHP Nick Pivetta, according to multiple reports.
