NHL Trade Rumors: Flyers Actively Shopping Brayden Schenn

November 20th, 2013 by Mike Pantaleone | Filed under Flyers, Hockey.

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article about Flyers youngsters Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier. In a nutshell, I made some points on why the Flyers should hold on to Couturier, and trade Schenn – should the right deal come along.

Apparently, the Flyers organization was listening.

According to Matt Brigidi (SB Nation) via Nick Kypreos, the Flyers have made Brayden Schenn available.

Philadelphia has long coveted both Jake Gardiner and Cody Franson, dating back to the Flyers discussions with Toronto for JVR.

The Flyers have had some trouble scoring this season, and unloading a guy like Schenn might hurt their offensive production even more. That said, the Flyers are in a dire situation come next season on defense, and they need some young, proven talent on the back end with mostly older guys clogging up the position.

Trading Schenn gives the Flyers probably their best opportunity to land a skilled, young defenseman they so desperately need. Heaven knows Luke Schenn hasn’t worked out.
