It’s looking more and more like one or both of Jose Contreras and Michael Stutes will start the season on the disabled list. If that is the case, two of Raul Valdes, Joe Savery and David Herndon will be available to pitch next Thursday. Stats thru Saturday:
- Valdes: 12.2 IP, .200 OBA, 0.95 WHIP, 7:1 K:BB ratio
- Savery: 8.1 IP, .226 OBA, 1.20 WHIP, 3:1 K:BB ratio
- Herndon: 15 IP, .271 OBA, 1.20 WHIP, 6:1 K:BB ratio
Valdes should make the team regardless of Contreras’ or Stutes’ status. So, who is more deserving: Savery or Herndon? Herndon and Savery have both been bass ackwards in their splits.
Savery:
- vs. LH: 2.2 IP, .333 OBA, 2.25 WHIP, 3:2 K:BB ratio
- vs. RH: 5.2 IP, .158 OBA, 0.71 WHIP, 6:1 K:BB ratio
