Depth Perception

March 31st, 2012 by Mike H. | Comments Off on Depth Perception | Filed in Baseball, Phillies

It’s looking more and more like one or both of Jose Contreras and Michael Stutes will start the season on the disabled list. If that is the case, two of Raul Valdes, Joe Savery and David Herndon will be available to pitch next Thursday. Stats thru Saturday:

  • Valdes: 12.2 IP, .200 OBA, 0.95 WHIP, 7:1 K:BB ratio
  • Savery: 8.1 IP, .226 OBA, 1.20 WHIP, 3:1 K:BB ratio
  • Herndon: 15 IP, .271 OBA, 1.20 WHIP, 6:1 K:BB ratio

Valdes should make the team regardless of Contreras’ or Stutes’ status. So, who is more deserving: Savery or Herndon? Herndon and Savery have both been bass ackwards in their splits.

Savery:

  • vs. LH: 2.2 IP, .333 OBA, 2.25 WHIP, 3:2 K:BB ratio
  • vs. RH: 5.2 IP, .158 OBA, 0.71 WHIP, 6:1 K:BB ratio

Countdown To Opening Day 2012: 5 Days

March 31st, 2012 by Mike H. | Comments Off on Countdown To Opening Day 2012: 5 Days | Filed in Baseball, Phillies

If you missed, last night on MLB Network, the Phillies were featured in the team preview series “30 Clubs in 30 Days”. Obviously, they absolutely raved about the Phillies pitching. They were pretty down on the lineup, expectedly. The highlights of the show for me were Roy Halladay imitating Dan Plesac’s pitching style and Jonathan Papelbon being HUSTLED by Cliff Lee’s son, Jaxon.

The show used Baseball Prospectus predictions to determine the end of season rankings. This is the part that I found ridiculous. AGAIN, the Phillies were being projected to finish behind the Braves. That number tends to fluctuate slightly from day-to-day before actual games begin, but to have the Braves finish FIRST in the division. They have good young pitching, but outside of a few position players, they are falling apart at the seams. The absolute definition of comedy is that Baseball Prospectus basically has the Mets being a .500 team in 2012 (79-83).  This is definitely something worth revisiting at the end of the season.

Jamie Moyer Makes Rockies Rotation

March 30th, 2012 by Johnny G | Comments Off on Jamie Moyer Makes Rockies Rotation | Filed in Baseball, General

Unbelievably, 49 year old Jamie Moyer has made the Colorado Rockies’ starting rotation. After a spring where he posted a 2.77 ERA, Moyer now has the opportunity to become the oldest pitcher to record a win in the big leagues. Amazing that this guy is still pitching, but what’s even more amazing is that he will most likely be the Rockies number two starter.

Donovan McNabb: “I’m the most criticized QB of all-time.”

March 30th, 2012 by Johnny G | Comments Off on Donovan McNabb: “I’m the most criticized QB of all-time.” | Filed in Eagles, Football, General

McNabb appeared on First Take with Skip Bayless today for the second day in a row. He is keeping with the same routine, though. D-Mac has become the most whiny, bitchy and embarrassing professional athlete I have ever witnessed. Constantly the victim, constantly being unfairly blamed, constantly not given the benefit of the doubt. I’m pretty tired of it. He’s absolutely clueless. Here’s the exchange with Bayless earlier today:

Bayless: Tim Tebow, once again, this points out to me, is the most unfairly, over-criticized quarterback in the history of this league.

McNabb: Negative– I am. I am.

Bayless: It is relentless on this network and every network.

McNabb: Nobody’s been criticized more than I have.

Michael Vick was asked about the reports that say the Eagles were interested in bringing Peyton Manning to Philadelphia. His response?

I really don’t care, I’m one of the best.

One of the best at what exactly, Michael?

Game Changer

How bad is the injury?

Reports are out saying Eagles offensive tackle Jason Peters has ruptured his Achilles tendon. How does this affect the Eagles going forward? The injury will most likely end Peters’ 2012 season before it even starts. What ramifications will it have on the draft? Keep following Team TSP on Twitter and check back here as this develops.

McNabb, Please, Just Go Away!

March 30th, 2012 by Mike H. | Comments Off on McNabb, Please, Just Go Away! | Filed in Football

Can someone tell Donovan McNabb that he is irrelevant. The only thing he is good for is a good sound bite. Everyone knows that all McNabb is gonna do is piss and moan in a passive aggressive way. Everything that happens to Donovan McNabb is always someone else’s fault. He failed in Washington because he stinks and yesterday McNabb appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” and was asked if Robert Griffin III was a good fit in Washington.
No, I say that because a lot of times ego gets too involved when it comes to being in Washington. Here’s a guy who’s coming out who’s very talented, mobile, strong armed, we’ve already heard he’s intelligent. Football minded. Are you gonna cater the offense around his talent, and what he’s able to do, or are you gonna bring the Houston offense with Matt Schaub over to him and have him kinda be embedded in that whole deal.
