My last trade idea involving the Phillies and Red Sox didn’t really go over well with reasonable Red Sox fans. That liked the reasoning behind it, but didn’t see a perfect match. My next trade has been one for discussion on both involved teams message boards. The Phillies have been interested in the center piece in the past and would qualify as to the quality of trades the Phillies are anticipating.
Phillies receive:
- OF Josh Willingham
- OF Michael Taylor
Athletics receive:
- SP Vance Worley
- OF John Mayberry Jr. OR Ben Francisco
The A’s have a need at starting pitching with the injury to Brett Anderson. If rookie Graham Godfrey is unable to be successful at the major league level, Vance Worley could be very appealing to them. Mayberry or Francisco would be nothing more than a fourth outfielder for the A’s. You have to wonder if the Phillies were to add OF Domingo Santana, if the A’s would add left handed relief pitcher Grant Balfour. Balfour could serve as insurance going forward if the Phillies cannot retain Ryan Madson.
People that know me, know that I have a small man crush for Michael Taylor. The 2012 Opening Day out field would almost definitely consist of Taylor, Victorino, and Brown. Brown, while not exactly hitting for tremendous power yet, has been hitting for average as he is currently, read at the time of this post, hitting .321 at AAA Sacramento.
yea it would be nice to get taylor back
The Phillies will not trade vance worley.
