Now this might be a little premature, but it is looking more and more like the NFL lockout will be resolved within a couple weeks. There have been rumors flying around of a July14th-15th end to the lockout, so even though there is not a deal in place it is time to look at who the Eagles should target in the shortened offseason.
The Eagles should be quick movers after the lockout is lifted. Kevin Kolb will most likely be dealt, whether or not this is a good move or a bad move is reserved for another column but he will most likely be moved within hours of the resolution. The NFC West looks like the landing spot for Kolb. Three quarters of the division needs a young talented quarterback and that is exactly what they will get with Kevin Kolb.
The real question is what or whom do you get back for Kevin Kolb. Yesterday the internet lit up with rumors that in exchange for Kolb the Cardinals would give up Dominic Rodgers Cromartie. This would be a good trade for both teams. The Cardinals would get the quarterback they need and the Eagles would be getting a proven cornerback. Rodgers-Cromartie has often been undervalued, partially because of playing out West, but mostly because during the Kurt Warner era no one paid attention to the defense. The team functioned around scoring as most points as possible, not making defensive stops. Rodgers-Cromartie would have a chance to make a name for himself in a city that desperately needs help in the secondary. This deal should only be done if the best player in free agency is not available which brings me to my next point.
Signing Nnamdi Asomugha.
Signing the best defensive back in the game is key to the Eagles success in the immediate future. Just imagine a secondary that features both Asomugha and Asante Samuel and you’ll understand why this is a deal the Eagles have to make and make quickly. The Cowboys have been rumored to be in the Asomugha sweepstakes and will be ultra aggressive in trying to sign him.
