T-Mac: You see [Cole] Hamels pitching with a circular band-aid on his chin, he’s got a little bit of a pimple that he’s been dealing with the last couple days.

Wheels: Well, he’s young.

T-Mac: A lot of folks have had to deal with that over the years.

Wheels: A little youth, that’s all.

Luxury Or Necessity?

The MLB non-waiver trade deadline is less than five weeks away and the Phillies have two glaring needs to their roster. One is the lack of a right handed power threat/five hole hitter. The other is lack of depth in the bullpen. The biggest hurdle for Ruben Amaro and the Phillies right now is keeping their payroll under the luxury tax threshold of 178 million dollars. They currently stand at roughly 175 million after payroll and benefits contributions. So the Phillies will either have to find someone willing to take on/swap a bad contract, trade premium prospects to in return for payment towards returning player, or accept going over the luxury tax threshold and wait for the bill on December 12. Let’s look at a couple of options and what the Phillies would be responsible should they acquire that person. (more…)
