First Pitch Jimmy At It Again!

I Just Need One Pitch!

So, the Phillies are down by one run in the 8th inning and your leadoff hitter comes to the plate and needs to get on to give you a shot to tie the game, right? Not for Jimmy Rollins. First pitch swing, pop up out. As usual.

First of all, your odds of gettin a base hit INCREASE the more pitches you see. I’ve NEVER seen a player swing at more first pitches than Rollins. NEVER. And he’s a LEADOFF hitter? Secondly, if he would have hit a homerun, the Phillies …still would have been down a run. He is supposed to get on base, disrupt the pitcher’s concentration so, Victorino, Utley and Howard can drive him in or pop one out to take the lead. Swinging at the first pitch when your team is down by two runs is just plain STUPID.  And SELFISH.

Phillippe Aumont Makes AAA Debut

Aumont is currently having the best statistical year of his short career.

Aumont made his AAA debut Saturday night in Pawtucket. While he wasn’t exactly perfect, allowing five base runners, one walk and four hits, he did strike out four batters and did not allow a run to cross the plate in his two innings of work. It looks as if Aumont may be filling in as closer for Lehigh Valley as he did finish the game. Aumont now has 45 strike outs in 33 innings between AA Reading and AAA Lehigh Valley this season compared to just 12 walks. I would imagine that he finishes the year in Lehigh Valley and may get a September call up. If he were to start 2012 there it wouldn’t be such a crime either as he will be just 23 for the 2012 season.
