Minor Notes: Belliard, Gillies

Ronnie Belliard has called it a career. He had been playing all over the infield for AAA Lehigh Valley this season after being released by the Yankees during Spring Training. The Phillies currently had no need for Belliard at the major league level. Belliard played for 13 seasons with the Brewers, Dodgers, Cardinals, Rockies, Indians, and Nationals.

Another side note involving AAA Lehigh Valley, Brian Gordon has decided to opt out of his minor league deal with the Phillies and will be signing with the Yankees and most likely starting against the Cubs on Saturday.  Gordon had been excelling in the Iron Pig rotation, posting a 1.14 ERA with a 9.1 K/9 and 1.1 BB/9.

***With the departure of Belliard and Gordon, and the pending departure of Vance Worley back to the Phillies rotation, there will be a glutten of roster moves on the horizon. ***

After battling hamstring issues, Tyson Gillies has made his season debut with High A Clearwater. After starting 0-for-9 in his first two outings, Gillies went 2-for-4 with two doubles in his third game with the Threshers on June 12th. He has been held out of two games since for unknown reasons.

Former first round pick Zach Collier has quietly getting back on track. 2010 was lost due to a hand injury and so far in 2011, Collier has slash line of .268/.353/.391 with 20 stolen bases in 26 attempts.
