Flyers Offseason

Will Brian Boucher be back?

I know what you may be thinking. Its way too early to be talking about the Flyers offseason, especially since the playoffs are still going on. I beg to differ, I think its a perfect time. The wounds of the season are still fresh in our minds, allowing us to reflect on what changes need to be made.

Ed Snider recently said, when asked about the goaltending situation, “never have the goaltending issue that we had this year”. Half of me wants to believe this statement, where the other half of me says that this is just the same song and dance. The Flyers haven’t had a legit #1 goalie since Hextall. In fact, the Flyers have had 11 goalies that have played in more than 25 games since Hextall. So clearly goalie is high on the off season wish list.

Looking at the available goalies, there really aren’t that much to choose from. Unrestricted free agent goalies are scarce. Tomas Vokoun and Ilya Bryzgalov are the top two goalies. Both goalies over the age of 30, with Vokoun 33 and Bryzgalov 30.

Perhaps 2-3 years is all the Flyers need in a goalie. Bobrovsky is their “goalie of the future” He is still adjusting to the North American style of play. Give him a year or two more and he could be ready to take on the role of a true #1 goalie in this town.

Tiger Brings Rodney to Mind...

Does this remind anyone of Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack, “Oooh, my arm, my arm, I think it’s broken!”

The pitcher formerly known as "Little Doc"

Paul Hagen of the Daily News posted an article about the Phillies 17th round pick of the 2010 first year  player draft, Mike Nesseth. Nesseth has yet to throw a pitch for a minor league affiliation. He is also recovering from Tommy John Surgery. So why are people within the organization making comparisons between Nesseth and Roy Halladay? It’s not just the eerie resemblance.
