Bill Shakespeare once wrote, “A rose by another name would smell as sweet.” The kids today say, “Haters gonna hate”. Both of those statements both define GQ’s Adam Winer. In an article dated for the April 2011 issue of the magazine, Winer defined the Phillies (and Eagles) fans as the worst sports fans in the country by reason of being the meanest. (more…)

Signs of the Times?
March 18th, 2011 by Mike H. | Comments Off on Signs of the Times? | Filed in GeneralSecound Round of Roster Moves
March 18th, 2011 by Mike H. | Comments Off on Secound Round of Roster Moves | Filed in GeneralThe Phillies moved seven more players to the minor league portion of the organization today. Vance Worley and Freddy Galvis were optioned down, while Brandon Moss, Jeff Larish, Juan Perez, Dan Meyer, and Michael Stutes all got reassigned. The only remote surprise was Stutes. With the Phillies rotation locked up, Worley is primed to start the season with Lehigh Valley and will most likely be the first man up in case of injury. Stutes should also start in Lehigh Valley, but as a reliever or a starter is still debatable.
With these roster moves, the Phillies still have 37 players in camp. They need to move 12 more players by Opening Day.

Mike H. interviews Tim Dierkes of MLBTR
March 18th, 2011 by Mike H. | 1 Comment | Filed in Baseball, General, InterviewsRecently, I was able to get a hold of the creator of mlbtraderumors.com, Tim Dierkes. I touched on a couple of different topics including the Phillies, MLBTR, and Tim’s personal life. Tim seemed easy going enough and could just be the poster boy for “Living to Work, Not Working to Live”. If you’re interested in some of the behind the scenes look at a site that is every baseball junky’s favorites list, check out the interview after the jump. (more…)
Countdown to Opening Day: 14 Days
March 18th, 2011 by Mike H. | Comments Off on Countdown to Opening Day: 14 Days | Filed in Baseball, PhilliesWe are officially at two weeks until Opening Day! I hope the time has flown by for you just as it has done for me. Personally, for me as a parent, the best part of the last two weeks of Spring Training means that my oldest son’s baseball coach gets into contact with the practice schedule. With only three spring starts to go before they count, Cliff Lee looked like the pitcher we all know and love for the three and two thirds innings. He struck out 3 of the first 6 batters. With two outs in the third, Lee started to struggle, giving up a double , a four pitch walk, and a wild pitch. With runners on second and third, he managed to work his way out of a jamb temporarily. The fourth inning started with an error and ended with the Blue Jays racking up five runs, three of which charged to Lee. Now on to the countdown. (more…)

Off the Schneid-er
March 18th, 2011 by Mike H. | Comments Off on Off the Schneid-er | Filed in Baseball, PhilliesAccording to a report by Keith Gary of lehighvalleylive.com, Phillies back up catcher, Brian Schneider has left camp to attend to some personal matters. No reason has been reported and no time table is available for his return. The Phillies, as of time of this post, still have n0n-roster invitees Dane Sardinha, Joel Naughton, Erik Kratz, and Tuffy Goosewich in camp.
More on this as it develops.
