A little advice for the Phillies starting rotation heading into 2011: Be Average! For all the people tired of the fluff pieces on how great the Phillies rotation is going to be, on how the first four in the rotation should win 20 games apiece, this is for you. I, too, am tired of how every national pundit thinks this is the greatest rotation in the past 20 years or so. So, to everyone who is writing the Phillies into the World Series based off the strength of their starting pitching, let the rotation be average and just enjoy the ride. (more…)

Countdown to Opening Day: 17 Days

So this is starting to look like the year where there is no big acquisition at the trade deadline for the Phillies. The only way remotely possible would be to make any kind of move would be to deal from the active roster, a move the Phillies have had no interest in doing the last couple of seasons. Do I completely believe Ruben Amaro Jr. when he says the Phillies are “maxed out” and that all the recent trade rumors are “BS”? Not entirely. We’ve been conditioned to not believe anything until it does or does not happen. On to a “news and notes” edition of Countdown. (more…)
