On Thursday, April 14th, the Reading Phillies will not only host their first home game of the season, but it marks the return of 1B Ryan Howard, and a lot of him. The R-Phils home opener features the Ryan Howard lawn gnome 2.0 and one lucky fan, who hopefully has a friend with a delivery truck, will have the opportunity to win a 550 lbs. version.

Even with the struggles on the field yesterday, most of the attention has been off the field. Between Chase Utley’s ailing knee and Domonic Brown’s broken hand, expectations have been slightly altered. Utley has gotten a cortisone shot and hopefully the inflammation goes down. Brown will be down for the next 4-6 weeks recovering from hand surgery. You can probably add 2-3 weeks on top of that for any kind of rehab assignment. (more…)
