Why Felix Got What He Deserved

November 22nd, 2010 by Johnny G | 1 Comment | Filed in General

As I said many weeks ago, it would have been an absolute travesty if the American League Cy Young award went to anyone other than Felix Hernandez. Turns out, for once, the Baseball Writers of America got this one right and ignored the meaningless tally of wins in front of CC Sabathia’s name. There are still a lot of skeptics out there who have their reasons why Felix didn’t deserve his award, so we’ll take a look at those now.

1. Felix should have won more than 13 games, no matter what run support he received.

In seven of his last 14 starts, he left in the seventh inning or later in games his team scored 0 runs for him. So how exactly was he supposed to find a way to win those games? I guess the argument is, he should have stayed out there longer. But guess what? He faced more hitters (1,001) than any pitcher in the big leagues

2. Felix didn’t have to pitch in the AL East like Sabathia or David Price.

Drinking the Kool Aid Yet?

Eagles Flavored Kool Aid Now Available!

Give the Giants credit.  Their defense, ranked #1 in the NFL, contained Michael Vick.  They slowed him down.  Bothered him.  Banged him up.  Their cornerbacks did a nice job on the Eagles receivers too.  Ran with them.  Kept them out of the end zone (except for Jason Avant’s ridiculous dropped TD with no Giant in sight).  But they still lost!

Sure, Osi Umenyura (check spelling) came within a clipped fingernail of slapping away Vick’s toss to Shady McCoy which McCoy took to the house for a 50 yard TD, but the bottom line is the Eagles – and Mike Vick – got another W.  And long with it, first place in the NFC East.  Currently the Eagles are the Number 2 seed in the NFC, and if the playoffs started tomorrow, they’d have a first round bye.

So, will all of you McNabb defenders and Reid bashers finally admit you were wrong all these years?  I think not, but I will keep reminding you, all the way through the playoffs…
