So That Was… Interesting?

The Best Player on the Field? Really?

Lesson no. 1… forget everything you THINK you KNOW about this stupid game.  That applies to every team, every year, but especially with this year’s Eagle’s team.

Heading into the season opener versus Green Bay, and after what was kind of a flat, boring preseason, most of us thought we knew a few things.  The team is young and  inexperienced, but talented.  This was going to be the coming of age season for Kevin Kolb and an offense that has a chance to be prolific.  This was Kolb’s team, no questions asked.  The defense was going to see growing pains.  Mike Vick was a shadow of his former self, not even worthy of the 5 snaps or so he was going to get a game.  Bobby April, special teams guru extraordinaire was here to sure up kick and punt coverage and bring some big play ability to our return game.

And then the game actually happened, and all of that flew right out the window. This game, in my opinion, was the worst possible outcome for the Eagles.  They had a devastating injury to their only fullback, lost Kolb and Bradly for an indefinite amount of time to concussions, lost their most important lineman, Jamaal Jackson to an elbow injury, and now it appears there is a legitimate QB controversy in hand.

Kolb was ineffective in the first half, going 5-10 for 24 yards, and throwing a couple passes that could have or should have been intercepted.  He looked uncomfortable, continued throwing into tight windows that either weren’t there, or left little room for any run after the catch, and ultimately could not move the offense.
