Phillies vs. Braves – Series Preview

Kyle Kendrick Opens Series

Pitching Probables:

Game 1: Kyle Kendrick (17.47 ERA) vs. Tommy Hanson (2.38 ERA)

Game 2: Roy Halladay (1.13 ERA) vs. Tim Hudson (2.84)

Game 3: Jamie Moyer (7.50 ERA) vs. Derek Lowe (4.67 ERA)

After dropping their first series of the year, the Fightin Phils head out on the road for a 9-game road trip. First up is the Atlanta Braves, who sit at 7-5 and continue to improve.  The Phillies started the year off scalding hot, scoring over 7 runs per game, but cooled off considerably once the Marlins came to town.  The Braves are another team with very good pitching, as they will throw young fire-baller Tommy Hanson to the mound in game one against the struggling Kyle Kendrick.  Obviously the Braves have the advantage in game one, with the Phils gaining the advantage in game two when ace Roy Halladay takes the hill.  In the finale, Derek Lowe gets the nod over Jamie Moyer.

This is as critical of a road trip as you will find on April 20th, but the Phillies will take on a plethora of quality pitching.  After Atlanta, the Phillies will head out to Arizona for a 3-game set with the Diamondbacks, then it’s off to San Francisco for a set against reigning two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants. A 5-4 road trip would be considered successful, against high quality opponents and the pitching they will face.

Things to Watch: Billy Wagner is now the Atlanta Braves closer; Young stud Jason Heyward will be facing the Phillies for the first time; Raul Ibanez is hitting .171; Kyle Kendrick and Jamie Moyer have struggled mightily, hopefully they will turn it around; Roy Halladay pitches tomorrow.

i actually felt bad for Kendrick in this one, realistcally this team could have 15 wins.
