Fantasy Football Playoffs: Tips for the ‘Ship

If you are one of the lucky few people that still have active fantasy football teams at this stage, give yourself a huge pat on the back.  This is the moment that everyone has prepared for way back when we were scouting our first-round draft picks.  Money and bragging rights are on the line, and there are fewer things that make a person feel better than winning their fantasy football championship.

In the 6 years that I have been actively participating, I have two finals appearances and one championship. This year, both of my teams have made it to the finals (At #1 and #4 playoff seeds), and I am ecstatic.  However, making it is only half of the battle, and if you’re as nervous as I am you’ll do a few things to make sure your team(s) is the one that comes out on top.

My first and easiest suggestion is to make sure that you understand your playoff format.  For example, I play on ESPN.com, meaning that my playoff rounds are two weeks instead of one.  I know that other sites like Yahoo and CBS are a bit different, so keep that in mind when making your match ups. Fantasy Football Week 7: Who To Start And Who To Sit

The Who To Start And Who To Sit column will not include star players who are easy starters, or players who are 5th string Wide Recievers who aren’t even on most rosters. This is for the players in the middle of the pack who could make or break your fantasy week. Any personal questions about your fantasy team you have, can be sent to my twitter @samshipley5 and I will get back to you as soon as I see your question.

Week 6 was a very weird one when it comes to fantasy football. Four of the top 10 scoring QB’s went by the names of Nick Foles, Andy Dalton, Thad Lewis, and Mike Glennon; while Peyton Manning finished 17th. Also was names like Riley Cooper, Anthony Fauria, and Dallas Clark finished in the top five of their positions.

This week is a new week however, and I really don’t expect this one to be as crazy as last week, at least I hope not. So with that lets get started with our “Who To Start and Who to Sit” for week 7.

BYES: Oakland and New Orleans

Fantasy Football: Week 6 Who To Start and Who To Sit

I will be giving out three “starts of the week”, with a sleeper. I will also give out three “sits of the week” at each position. Now I will not be writing obvious players such as Adrian Peterson or Peyton Manning for example, because they are obvious starts. If you have any questions that you want to ask me personally feel free to tweet me @samshipley5 and I will get back to your question as fast as possible.

TEAMS ON THE BYE: Dolphins and Falcons

WHO TO START: Quarterback

Tony Romo vs. Washington: Tony Romo is coming off of the best game of his career throwing for over 500 yards and five touchdowns, against Denver last week. This week he goes up against the worst defense in the NFL. The Redskins are dead last in the league allowing 440.5 yards per game, and rank 28th in the league in passing yards allowed per game (298.2 yards). The Redskins are coming off a bye, but before that they had their first win of the season against the Oakland Raiders. The defense looked good, but lets keep in mind that Terrelle Pryor didn’t play in that game either. This week on Sunday Night Football, at home I see no reason why Tony Romo won’t have another big game against a horrible Redskins defense. It probably won’t be a 500 yard or 5 touchdown performance again, but I do expect a very good game out of Romo.

Phillip Rivers vs. Colts: Phillip Rivers is currently having a resurgence of a season that I am not sure anyone expected him to have. Rivers has thrown for 13 touchdowns to just 5 interceptions, and 1,610 yards so far. His first bump in the road was last week at home against the Oakland Raiders which was kind of surprising, but he still managed to put together a solid performance. This week I think Rivers is in for another good game, whether it is because they will be playing from behind against a good Colts team most of the way, or that this game turns into kind of a shootout, either way I see Rivers putting together a solid stat line. Ryan Matthews probably not playing helps as well.
