The Lombardi Trophy surfaced last night in Foxborough, Massachusetts. That means that the NFL season is officially underway, also meaning that another season of Eagles football is almost upon us. Now, last season can be categorized as a significant disappointment, as we started out 9-3, finished 1-3 down the stretch…totally missing the playoffs. It seems though, that coach Chip Kelly listened to the opinions of Eagles fans this offseason, and agreed that the team needed a serious roster overhaul. Following the end of Super Bowl 49, I was expecting the Birds to make a few significant moves, but never once did I imagine that Chip would venture to totally rebuild this entire team in one sitting. From the stunning trade of LeSean McCoy, to the mind-blowing signing of one-time division rival DeMarco Murray, the Philly fan base never knew exactly what to expect from Chipper. I’ll venture a guess to say that if this offseason doesn’t result in some production, there’s a good chance that Chip could find himself back in Eugene by this time in 2016. Now, it’s back to the offense. Following this deal, there was a monumental gap in the backfield, that was seeming to be filled by the duo of Darren Sproles and Chris Polk. That was, until news broke that the Eagles had inked former Chargers runner Ryan Mathews to a two-year deal. This news still didn’t sooth the worries of Eagles fans though, as Mathews has a lengthy injury history (including a Torn ACL). So, what does Chip Kelly do? The only thing that Chip Kelly knows how to do, and that means making a splash. Well, Chipper made no bigger splash, then when he stunned the football world, signing prized free agent DeMarco Murray. Murray was fresh off of a monstrous season with the division rival Cowboys, racking up over 1,800 yards and double-digit touchdowns. With the signings of Murray and Mathews, the Eagles backfield was the most stable it had been in years.
