This past Sunday the Flyer’s Zac Rinaldo had an autograph signing at Gateway 26 on the Boardwalk in Wildwood.  The signing was sponsored by MJR Sports Integrity and JAG Sports Marketing.  The Fans lined up for a chance to meet Zac and get photos and items autographed.  Zac is a very affable fellow despite his tough on ice presence in the NHL.  He joked around and talked with the fans and seemed to have a great time at the signing.

I asked him if he had been doing a lot of signings since coming to the Flyers and he said “he has only done a few so far”.  I had the pleasure of meeting him last year during a taping of the Propper Hockey show where he was a guest of the show.  Zac brings a rough and tough edge to the Flyers team and should mature into a more versatile player as the years go on.  TalkSportsPhilly is excited for the upcoming Flyers season and thinks they will be a contender if the Flyers concentrate on improving the defense and goaltending.

TSP Spotlight: John LeClair (Autograph Signing)

July 17th, 2013 by Leo | Comments Off on TSP Spotlight: John LeClair (Autograph Signing) | Filed in Events, Flyers, General

johnleclair

John LeClair was one of the Flyers all time greats.  With his good size and determined play John became one of the best left wingers in the NHL during the 1990’s. On February 9, 1995, a Montreal team desperate to salvage a difficult season traded LeClair, along with Éric Desjardins and Gilbert Dionne to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Mark Recchi and Philadelphia’s 3rd round choice in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft (Martin Hohenberger).  LeClair quickly fit in with the organization and joined Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg on the line which aptly became nicknamed the “Legion of Doom”.

LeClair became the first American-born NHL player to record three consecutive 50-goal seasons and was the second Flyer to do so behind Tim Kerr.  John LeClair played 10 seasons for the Flyers and was one of the most productive players in franchise history, scoring 333 goals and an additional 35 in the playoffs, which places him in the Top Ten of all time Flyer goal scorers.

Here are John LeClair’s stats while playing with the Flyers:

1994–95 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 37 25 24 49 20 15 5 7 12 4
1995–96 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 82 51 46 97 64 11 6 5 11 6

“Brown was drafted in the seventh round (229th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a four-year contract with the team on May 11, 2012.

After starting running back LeSean McCoy was ruled out due to post-concussion symptoms, Brown started against the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football on November 26, 2012—his first start since high school. Brown had over 100 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone, including a sixty-five yard touchdown run. He finished the game with 178 yards rushing on 19 carries, 2 touchdowns and 4 receptions for 11 yards, and 2 fumbles. Brown’s 178 yards set an Eagles rookie record. The next week on 2 December 2012 against the Dallas Cowboys, Brown rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Brown fumbled late in the fourth quarter, however, and Dallas player Morris Claiborne returned the fumble 50-yards for the deciding score in the game. ” (Info from Wikipedia) (more…)

My Thoughts of BDawk at The Sports Cave

January 22nd, 2013 by talks7 | Comments Off on My Thoughts of BDawk at The Sports Cave | Filed in Eagles, Events, Football, Interviews, NFL, Sports, TalkSportsPhilly

By Bud Vaughn

I recently got the pleasure of shaking the hand of probably, my all time favorite football players.  Brian Dawkins, or “Weapon X” as he so deservedly was called.  The 9 time pro bowl safety out of Clemson University played 13 of his 16 year career with the Philadelphia Eagles. The final 3 came with the Denver Broncos.  He presence on the field brought an energy and passion to the game I have not seen since within the Eagles.  I don’t know which was more explosive, his hits or the fireworks show that preceded his entrance onto the field .

Receivers who were sent to his part of the field knew at some point they were going to get hit HARD.  During one game in 2002 against the Houston Texans Brian recorded a sack, an interception, forced fumble and a touchdown reception, which has never been done before in the history of the NFL. When I walked into the Sports Cave where he was signing autographs, I had a “thought He’d be bigger” moments, sorry Brian.

That just made me that much more impressed with his level of play.  He was very nice to all the fans.  I loved the hat he wore.  Now that I have retired my Dawkins jersey, which is now signed , I can only hope that an Eagle of his caliber will rise up soon.  He has my vote for a defensive coaching position with the Eagles. Can you think of anyone else who knows Jim Johnson’s defensive mind better than Brian? Throughout his career I never heard of him getting anything but praise from people who met him or seen him out and about.  I wish I had the opportunity to tell him thank you for everything.  I also thank The Sports Cave for putting together such a great signing.

So Brian, if you ever read this Thank you!

TSP Events: Nick Foles Autograph Signing and Interview at The Sports Cave

Eagles QB Nick Foles and TSP’s Leo

By Christopher Leomporra

On Tuesday October 2, 2012, Eagles QB Nick Foles had an autograph signing at the Sports Cave in the shops at Liberty Place in Philadelphia.  This was Nick’s first autograph signing in Philly and he was a pleasure to work with during the event, even taking a great promo shot with TSP.  The people lined up and waited for a chance to meet Nick and have an item signed.

TalkSportsPhilly.com co-sponsored the event with Big Brother, Big Sisters and the Sports Cave hosted the signing at their store.  I have to say that Nick was taller in person than I thought and he had a real laid back and easy going personality.  I had a chance to discuss a few things with Nick during the signing about just life and some stuff about the Eagles.

Trent Cole Profile and Autograph Signing at the Philly Sports Cave

July 6th, 2012 by Leo | Comments Off on Trent Cole Profile and Autograph Signing at the Philly Sports Cave | Filed in Eagles, Events, Football, General, Interviews, TalkSportsPhilly

trentcoleprofileTrent Cole has been a staple here in Philly since 2005, and since then Cole has played in 108 games and accumulated 68 sacks while playing for the Eagles.  As we all know,  being an Eagles fan has been an exercise in frustration over the years as attested by the fan base and lack of ability to bring home a Super-Bowl to Philly.  On the other hand, Trent has been one of the shining stars and one of the most consistent players on the Eagles over the last 7 years.  Here is a list of interesting facts on Trent Cole’s career here in Philly.

  • Cole was selected in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles with the draft pick acquired from the Washington Redskins  for wide receiver James Thrash

    Trent Cole and Christopher Leomporra

  • Cole signed a five-year contract extension on November 6, 2006 worth $26–28 million with a $12 million guarantee, which could keep him with the Eagles until 2013.
  • Cole recorded 12.5 sacks in the 2007 season which broke his personal single-season record.
  • In 2008 Cole led the team in hurries (22), and TFLs (9), was 2nd in sacks (9.0), and 3rd with 3 FFs while making 98 tackles (59 solo).
  • He was selected for 2 Pro Bowls, one in 2007 and one in 2009
  • Cole was ranked #57 out of the top 100 players in the NFL in 2012
  • Cole signed a four-year contract extension with the Eagles worth up to $55.25 million on March 14, 2012, extending his contract through the 2017 season.

Yesterday I got the pleasure of meeting Trent Cole at the autograph signing for the Philly Sports Cave. The Sports Cave is located at 1625 Chestnut St and is one of the shops at Liberty Place.  A good crowd of people came out to meet Trent and  to have various memorabilia autographed and pose for pictures with him.  Trent appeared to be very happy to greet and meet his fans and carried himself with dignity and a quiet well mannered personality throughout the signing.
