The NFL Draft is the one-time of year where you can count on crazy trades happening. However, trades usually occur during the draft….not eight days before. Technically the first major deal of the draft happened about a month ago, when the Eagles acquired the 8th overall pick from the Miami Dolphins for Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, and 13th overall. Last Thursday saw the Rams one-up that deal by trading a pair of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks in their next two drafts to Tennessee to jump from 15th overall to 1st overall. You would think that’s where things end, right? Wrong. The Eagles are now trying to one-up that deal, by moving up for the second time in this draft….before the draft even begins!
Now, it’s no secret that the Eagles have long coveted the pair of quarterbacks in this year’s draft class. They seem to favor Carson Wentz more over Jared Goff, although both are viewed as franchise signal-callers in the Eagles eyes. It’s also no secret their desire to move up and land one of these quarterbacks. The Birds have been linked to franchise quarterbacks before, and haven’t been able to pull the trigger…so, excuse me if I’ve been a little skeptical. Nonetheless, my skepticism has started to diminish greatly over the last 48 hours. The reason for this being that the talk behind the Eagles trading with the Browns has gained more momentum. So much momentum has been gained, that terms of a reported deal have already been leaked by Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com.
