Not long after the Flyers won their first game on Tuesday night vs. a fellow Eastern Conference team in the Florida Panthers, newest head coach Craig Berube — formerly the assistant under Peter Laviolette — spoke on his forward Jay Rosehill’s penalties towards the end of the game, and addressed the media in a comical way regarding questions about the subject.
One reporter asked him if there would be any specific punishment for Rosehill, who was assessed a two-minute penalty for roughing, followed by another altercation before he made his way into the penalty box that concluded with Rosehill being assessed, on top of the first penalty, a 10-minute misconduct and a double minor for his actions.
In his post-game news conference, Berube addressed the question of punishing Rosehill for the inopportune penalties with a comical, yet almost serious response.
“Do you want me to do spank him?” Berube asked. Once the laughter died down he added, “Get lost.”
Yes, Berube won the game in his NHL coaching debut, which is fantastic, but he and the team still have a long way to go before they improve in many different facets of their game.
