Cheaters Lose, Flyers Win!

Pronger & Flyers Shutout Canadiens

Sand, dirt or whatever it was the Canadiens insiders used in the Flyers tunnel leading to the ice failed! Leave it to Canadiens to pull such a PATHETIC stunt. The skates of the Flyers were being dulled and the visiting Flyers were losing their skating edge on the ice, before our trainers threw towels down to prevent this.

Back to the game, which was dominated by puck control from the start by Philadelphia.  Talk about a 180 degree turn around  from Thursday’s meeting!  This is the Flyers third shutout in a series, which no other Flyer club in history can boast!

It was such a plus having the fresh legs of Jeff Carter and Ian Laperriere back after injuries sustained in the first-round series against the Devils.  Even with their hometown fans cheering and frenetically waving white towels,  the French-Canadien Frogs were hapless against this determined, nitty-gritty band from Philadelphia.  Chris Pronger turned in an A+ effort,  ruling the defensive end, while making several long-ice passes, one of which was a bullet to Ville Leino who scored the Flyers second goal.

Coming back to Philadelphia on Monday, I expect the defense to stand tall, our forwards to be aggressive and the Flyers to put this series away in 5 games, like we did 2 years ago against Montreal.  The major difference this year is we will be playing against Chicago for the Cup, not Pittsburgh in the Conference finals.

All On L.A.

I just saw that the line for the Lakers-Suns game tomorrow is Lakers minus 2. I’m tempted to bet my whole 401K on the Lakers. They’ll win by 10 or more. The Suns have no size at all to stop them.

Hamels Getting Stronger

Good May for Cole

Cole Hamels dominated the Boston Red Sox last night.  He went seven innings, giving up one earned run on just three hits, while striking out eight. He retired 14 of 15 batters at one point.  Sox hitters were frozen, mystified, and swinging badly all night.  Cole was in complete command.

Hamels’ ERA in May is 2.86, and he’s beginning to again display the focus that made him the 2008 World Series MVP. Last night, the strike zone was tight, and when a couple of pitches Hamels thought were strikes were called balls, he didn’t unravel. He stared in at the ump, but kept his composure and continued mowing down the Red Sox. If he keeps his head together, the body will follow. He has all the talent in the world and it was on full display last night.

Schmitty’s Rant!

May 22nd, 2010 by Schmitty | 5 Comments | Filed in Basketball, General, NBA, Sixers

I Didn’t Want Brand!

Nobody in Philadelphia is more of a clown GM than Ed “Stealing Money” Stefanski! Seriously, what has this GM done aside from having this year’s ping pong ball bounce his way?  And hire a safe choice coach (Doug Collins) with barely a 500 winning percentage?  Besides, WHO is he going to coach?  You tell me! Lower Merion High School – without Kobe – could give this no-talented, heartless bunch of scrubs a run for their money!

Maybe Ed is a nice guy, but somehow, someway he will screw up this years draft! Is John Wall the most dazzling player out there? Yes!  But we will most likely land Turner who could pair with Holiday for the backcourt of the future.  Dump your mistake Brand while you are at it too!  For God’s sake, you tell us the Sixers are gonna run and gun, then lock up oodles of money in this stiff who looks like he plays under water!

Speaking of guys getting on my nerves is that Ruben Amaro.  Are the Phillies the cream of the NL crop?  Yes!  My beef is they should be the cream of the entire baseball planet!

We had a MAJOR rarity with 2 aces and Cy Young Pitchers. Ruben in one day took us to baseball Utopia, then brought us down in a nano-second.  He acquired Roy Halladay then traded away Cliff Lee in 2 two separate deals. Why?  Why?  Why!!!   Stupity & Money!

Series Became a Battle Last Night

Series Became a Battle Last Night

For most of this hockey clash, we appeared headed for another shutout between the Flyers and Canadiens in this best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals.  Problem is, as Flyer’s fans, we got a taste of our own medicine with an absolute drubbing at the hands of the quick-skated and very aggressive Canadiens.  The 5-1 score was really not even that close.

Aside from another Gagne tally for the Flyboys this could have been an 8-0 blitzkrieg.  The Canadiens resembled angry hornets swarming around to protect their own nest, which they did almost flawlessly.

I kind of expected this to be a letdown game for the Flyers as well as a charged Canadien team facing a 3-love series deficit. Tonight’s game really didn’t suprise me.  Does it make me rattled?  No, but as a fan it wakes me up to the fact that this series is far from over.

I expect a much stronger match come Saturday.  I can’t promise a Flyers win, but it should be a close one.  The Flyers HAVE to match Montreal’s intensity or this series will quickly be tied a 2 games a piece.

CK’s Random Thoughts…

Bad Move Hanley...

Kudos to the Philadelphia Flyers! Their comeback from zero games to three against the Bruins, and being down 3-0 in Game 7 is one for the ages.

Peter Laviolette’s timeout when they went down 3-0 in Game 7 is one of the most memorable moments I’ve witnessed in sports. His focus and determination were palpable through the television.

The big question is: Can the Flyers defeat the Black Hawks in the Finals?

Ryan Howard has been working on his hitting technique with Barry Bonds. Looks like it’s working. On the season, Howard is batting .309 with 7 HRs and 30 RBIs.. His power numbers are down, but if he can keep hitting for average, the power will come. He usually heats up in July. Just stay away from Barry’s workout program Ryan!
