Johnny G’s Week 15 NFL Picks

Money Picks

After a rough loss on Monday Night, the updated record now stands at 13-6.

Houston Texans (-14) over St. Louis Rams/ 1pm Sunday

How can It get any worse for the Rams? They lose starter Marc Bulger to a broken leg, they lose back up Kyle Boller to arm soreness, and are left with Craig Null to start last week. The former back up to Ryan Leaf was nothing short of awful last week against the Titans. To top things off, the swine flu made its way around the locker room, causing head coach Steve Spagnuolo to cancel practice on Thursday. One of the many players affected by the swine flu is Steven Jackson, the best player on the football team. Add that to his balky back that has been bothering him for several weeks and this spells disaster for the Rams.

Look for Matt Schaub and the Texans to jump out early, and score quite often. It is sad what the Rams organization has become to this point and it will only get worse this afternoon. Take Texans minus the points.

Double Your Money Pick Of the Week

San Francisco 49ers (+8) over Philadelphia Eagles/ 4:15 pm Sunday

Both teams here come off extremely impressive wins over division rivals. The Niners dismantled the Cardinals as they regained some hope in the division. The Eagles put on an offense show against the Giants and their troubled defense in a shootout.

The 49ers recently discovered their ground game last Monday and as stated in the analysis of the game, until the 49ers get consistent balance to their offense, they will not win consistently. Little did I know, the balance would come on Monday night. With Frank Gore getting the necessary carries and Vernon Davis getting open space after the play-action fake, this is suddenly a very dangerous team with a ferocious defense.

The Eagles offense could not have been much better against the Giants, but the issue I see this week is that the defense is simply not good enough to be giving this many points to San Fran. The unsure tackling, if it is not corrected, will be too much to overcome this afternoon. I have no doubt the Eagles can score enough points to win the game, but their defense will not allow them to blow the 49ers out. This game most likely comes down to a late field goal. Take the road dogs plus the points as your pick of the week.

How did they come up with those numbers, since they stopped tracking it in July? “In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases.”
