There’s really only one word to describe the Owls’ win over Kansas Monday night: stunning.

The No. 10 Jayhawks’ eight-win streak came to a halt at the hands of Temple’s top-scoring trio, Will Cummings, Quenton DeCosey, and Jesse Morgan.  The three scored a combined 54 points, outscoring the entire Kansas team.  Head coach Fran Dunphy called it “our night,” and Temple fans flooded the floor of Wells Fargo Center at the conclusion of the second half.  And why shouldn’t we? The Flyers are off to a mediocre start, there’s a stalled fire sale at CBP, 76ers are winning about 12% of their games, and the Eagles are set to play a meaningless game against the Giants this week.  Go ahead and celebrate, Temple University fans; the Owls just rode the subway to South Philly and embarrassed a top-ten team in front of thousands.  Let’s enjoy this.

You may recall that exactly two years ago, on December 22, 2012, TU took down Syracuse at Madison Square Garden.

Bill Self’s Kansas team looked exhausted in their second loss thus far this season, shooting just 32.1 percent from the field.  Frank Mason III’s 20 points weren’t enough to keep the Jayhawks alive; in fact, no other Kansas player banked double digits.  The Owls held the lead throughout both halves, thanks in large part to the Jayhawks’ seventeen turnovers.

Temple, eclipsed in the Big 5 by undefeated Villanova, is now 8-4.  While Tulane holds onto first in the American conference, there is still plenty of basketball to be played.  the Owls will host Delaware State on Sunday at 5:00.
