The Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears roll in to the week 15 Sunday night matchup with everything on the line, of course, this depends on whether the Dallas Cowboys show up to play the Washington Redskins or fold their tent and go home after last weeks 2nd half meltdown against the Green Bay Packers. Both teams sit atop their respective divisions by the slimmest of margins. For the Eagles, they need to take care of their own business so they won’t have to worry about Dallas. The Birds will face the most well rounded offense they’ve faced all season.

The Bears have a terrific back in Matt Forte, who is currently 3rd in the NFL in rushing with 1200 yards while averaging 4.7 yards per carry. He also has 66 catches for 522 yards Also, the Bears are the only team in the NFL with 2-1000 yard receivers in Alshon Jeffery, 1265 yards and Brandon Marshall with 1185 yards. The pair have combined for 170 catches. Offensively the Bears can be very good while the Eagles defense, that ranks #31 in the NFL in pass defense, can be very suspect. 2011-12 NFL Preview: NFC North

The NFC North is on the verge of becoming one of the most competitive divisions in football. We all know what the Packers did last season, but remember that the Bears finished with the second best record in the NFC. While it may have been somewhat of a fluke year in which everything just goes your way, the Bears still had to go out and win those games. The Detroit Lions found out that they have the next great defensive player in Ndamukong Suh, but also found themselves with an injured starting QB for most of the season. The Minnesota Vikings had a year that the front office would like to forget as quickly as possible. I will give them credit though, the last two weeks of the season saw no Brett Favre and helped Leslie Frazer prove that he is ready to lead this team back to contendersville.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers come into this season with the goal of repeating as world champions. There has been very few teams that have been able to repeat as Super Bowl champions, the last team to do so was the 05 New England Patriots. Last year the Packers were constantly having to deal with injuries across the board. Aaron Rodgers proved that he was an elite quarterback. He did this with very little help from the rushing game in the regular season. James Starks did emerge during their playoff run. Rodgers showed his ability to not only throw the ball on a dime while under pressure, but doing so to all of the targets at his disposal. Mix that with a healthy Jermichael Finley and the offense becomes even more dangerous than it was last season.

Defensively the Packers return almost all of their starters. DT Cullen Jenkins departed for Philadelphia. This is an overall unit that is overflowing with talent. Up front B.J Raji, Clay Mathews, Ryan Picket are downright studs and in the secondary the ageless Charles Woodson always seems to be making plays, but what is scary is that the other cornerback Tramon Williams was actually better statistically last season.

Make no mistake about it, the Packers are the best team in football and will only continue to prove so this season.

Player to watch: RB James Starks While Ryan Grant will be listed as the starter come opening day, Starks is going to be the starting RB at some point during this season. He showed explosiveness that Grant just does not have. More importantly he showed that he can be very dangerous in the screen passing game, something that will only make a spread offense that much more dangerous.

Comeback! Courtesy Donnie Mac

Soldier Field, Chicago. Fourth quarter. Bears up 20-17. The Eagles desperately need the win. Donovan McNabb and the offense have the ball at their own thirty-eight yard line, with eleven minutes remaining in the game. How’s your confidence level?

McNabb takes the ball and… methodically drives the Eagles sixty-two yards for a touchdown, on an eleven play drive that consumes five minutes, thirty-one seconds and was punctuated with a ten yard scamper by LeSean “Shady” McCoy. Awesome! Clutch! Just what the Eagles needed. About time!

This was a better game than expected, featuring four lead changes, the last one being McCoy’s TD in the fourth quarter that won the game for the Eagles. McNabb, playing before his hometown, was good overall, going 23 of 32 for 244 yards with 2 touchdowns and one interception. He spread the ball to five different receivers. DeSean Jackson had another impressive game, with 8 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. He was clearly the fastest player on the field. He may be the faster player in the NFL. LeSean McCoy rumbled for 99 yards on 20 carries (not a misprint!) and a touchdown.

This was of course against a Bears team with Jay Cutler at QB. He seems to have less control than Mitch Williams used to. He was missing receivers all night. But I have to give credit where credit is due. McNabb was sharp, decisive and accurate on that scoring drive. He looked, shall I say, confident? Great job Donovan!

Andy Reid, please take the video of that drive and run a continual loop in Donovan’s house so he sees what he can do if he’s confident at the end of the game.

Johnny G’s Sunday NFL Picks (Recap)

4-1 in his last five picks, here are Johnny G’s Sunday picks (originally posted Wednesday):

Oakland Raiders (+10) over Cincinnati Bengals/ Sunday 4:15 pm- After an extremely physical and emotional game against their divisional rivals, the Bengals will come into this game flat. Cedric Benson will most likely not play in this game, and if he does, will not be effective because of a hip flexor strain. Recently signed Larry Johnson will not be able to get the job done against an above average Oakland Raiders defense. The Raiders come into this game after an embarrassing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, where starter Jamarcus Russell was benched for journeyman Bruce Gradkowski. Look for the Raiders to come ready to play and keep this game close. They may not win this game outright but it will be much closer than the public and odds makers expect. Take the points as the Raiders keep this game within the number.

Bengals 17 Raiders 14

Indianapolis Colts (-1) over Baltimore Ravens/ Sunday 1pm- After struggling in a primetime division game against a horrendous Browns team, I expect this Ravens team to get blown out of the building. Peyton Manning comes off of a stellar performance against Tom Brady and the Patriots, and the Colts offense is clicking on all cylinders. On the other hand, Joe Flacco and the Ravens come back after a short week and one of the ugliest prime time football games you will ever see as Baltimore struggled to score any points whatsoever against the Cleveland Browns. If Brady Quinn could accurately throw a five yard curl route or if his coaching staff had a sliver of confidence in him to throw the ball more than twelve yards down the field, the Ravens may have lost this game. Take the better team with the better QB on the road in a pick-em situation here.

Colts 31-Ravens 14

Philadelphia Eagles (-3) over Chicago Bears/ Sunday 8:20 pm- After a tough loss to the San Diego Chargers in San Diego, where the Eagles threw the ball a shocking 82% of the time, look for the offense to balance out this week and get back to basics. This Chicago Bears team is very average on both sides of the football at this point after losing their defensive leader Brian Urlacher for the season. They have no real number one receiver and Matt Forte has been invisible all season. Without a running game, look for Sean McDermott to confuse Cutler with blitz after blitz and watch the turnovers pile up. Although Brian Westbrook is out, the offense moved the ball effectively against a better Chargers defense and really should not have much of an issue at all. The Birds should not have trouble covering this field goal on the road.
