Sixers Reportedly Sign JaKarr Sampson

There is no hiding that this has been a quiet summer for Sixers fans, and some could even argue it has been quiet for over a year. Tonight the Sixers made a small move in their attempt to continue filling out the roster, signing former St. John’s forward JaKarr Sampson.

Sampson went undrafted after leaving St. John’s, where he averaged 12.8 points and 6.1 rebounds last season. As a member of the Sixers Orlando Summer League team this summer, he averaged 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in five games.

Sampson comes in at 6’8″, and he brings a lot of athleticism with his game. His role in the NBA will likely be switching between small forward and power forward, or what many people call a “tweener”. He doesn’t bring much of a long-range shot, but does have a solid mid-range game which will continue to be developed in the NBA.

His deal is a partially guaranteed deal, and we will likely see Sampson as another player who will be competing for a decent role as he is developed by the Sixers. It is a good signing, as the 21 year old potentially can turn out to be a good bench player off of his athleticism and rebounding skills alone at this point.
