The Philadelphia Eagles, in less than 12 hours from now, will attempt to gain sole possession of first place within the NFC East division, with a win over rival Washington, who’s coming off of a seven point loss, 34-27, at Minnesota 10 days ago on a Thursday night game. Last season, Washington was in a very similar, almost exact situation as this season. Last year, they were 3-6 as well, and went on to win seven consecutive games to finish at 10-6 — good enough for first place within the NFC East; Washington’s first division title in 13 years, since they went 10-6 in the 1999 season.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia can’t seem to buy a win at home these past couple of seasons, for whatever reason. They’re winless at home this season, at 0-4, while Washington is 1-4 on the road. Currently, Philadelphia has a 10-game losing streak at home, dating back to last year. Their last home victory came over a year ago, vs. the Giants, on September 30th, when they won 19-17.
The former is tied for dead last, with the New York Giants, within the division, while Philadelphia is tied, with five wins a piece, with Dallas for the lead. Washington has been outscored by 57 points thus far, 287-230, while Philadelphia has outscored their opponents by eight points, 252-244.
