The Flyers season is set to begin tonight with the home opener agains the Toronto Maple Leafs and looks to be an exciting one for the Flyers this year.  Last night I went down to Ponzio’s Diner in Cherry Hill, NJ for the first ever Peter Laviolette show hosted by 97.5 the Fanatic.  The show was taped from 6 to 7pm and featured Jason Myrtetus, Chris Therien, and Peter Laviolette.

They talked about a range of issues including the signing of Vincent Lecavalier, the new division realignment and schedule as well as taking calls from the listeners.  The crowd for the show was good and many dressed in orange and black to show support.  There was a greeting tent outside that handed out shirts, cup holders, posters, and other Flyers paraphernalia for the fans of the show and patrons of Ponzio’s diner.

During the commercial breaks for the show the fans got up to meet Peter for autographs and pictures.  I got my chance for a picture and a brief chance to talk with Peter.  I asked him about the upcoming season and he said “They are ready to play!”.  Peter was very gracious with the fans as was the rest of the show’s staff.  If you would like to listen to the show click the link (Peter Laviolette Show) .

The next show is scheduled for October 22nd at Ponzio’s, so mark your calendars and go down to see the show!

Below are some pictures from the show:

With Eagles at a Crossroads, Kelly’s Crew Faces a Crucial October

October 2nd, 2013 by Jim Chesko | Comments Off on With Eagles at a Crossroads, Kelly’s Crew Faces a Crucial October | Filed in Eagles, Football, General

The Eagles’ 2013 season is only a quarter over, but there’s no denying that the next few weeks will go a long way in determining whether November and December will even matter.

Coming off a 52-20 drubbing at the hands of the unbeaten Denver Broncos, the Eagles now enter a five-game stretch of games that give Chip Kelly’s battered Birds a chance to rebound and show they have a shot at winning the NFL’s weakest division.  Upcoming games include home and away contests with the 0-4 New York Giants, a trip to Tampa to play the Buccaneers who are also 0-4 (and have a bye this weekend), plus a home contest against the up-and-down Dallas Cowboys, and a trip to Oakland to play the Raiders, who currently sit at 1-3 after a loss to the Redskins.  Five winnable games.

Of course, it’s very possible the opposite could happen and we’ll learn that it will take another year or two before this team and its fans can even think about a return to the playoffs.

There’s quite a bit of cause for alarm.  The first two weekends of the season saw the Eagles score an impressive 33-27 win over the ‘Skins followed by a tough 33-30 loss to the San Diego Chargers. But then came that five-turnover 26-16 loss to Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs and Sunday’s dismal defeat at the hands of Peyton Manning & Co.

When you look at some of the numbers, it’s even more startling – and makes you wonder whether the league has already figured out how to shut down Kelly’s high-powered offense.

After averaging 30 points over the first two games, the average tumbled to 18 ppg over the next two. And that’s not nearly enough when you consider the Eagles’ defensive problems. In addition, there are worries about the Birds’ not-so-special teams.  Denver scored one touchdown on a 105-yard kickoff return and another on a return of a blocked punt.  Also, Alex Henery missed his third field goal of the season after connecting on 27-of-31 last year.
